BTS, "Dynamite" [Photo Credit: Bighit Entertainment]K-pop darlings BTS are on fire with their very first English-exclusive single, the incredibly sunny and ‘explosive’ “Dynamite.”

BTS have definitely carved out ample success in the United States. The K-pop band is ‘definitely a big deal’ and you’d have to be totally out of the loop do disagree.  Quite prolific, the boys are back with something they’ve never done before – a single performed exclusively in English! That’s right, there’s no need for any translation when it comes to “Dynamite.”

At 3:19, “Dynamite” is an optimal duration.  It’s not too long nor is it too short.  We get just the right amount of these K-pop darlings, sigh. “Dynamite” is hella likable, thanks to being carefree, positive and sunny to the nth degree.  The vocals are incredibly potent, particularly the falsetto, which is ripe AF.  The lyrics are fun, with tongue-n-cheek and some gimmickry with repetition.

The crowning achievement, unsurprisingly, is the catchy, infectious chorus; it instantly gets stuck in your head!

“‘Cause I, I, I’m in the stars tonight
So watch me bring the fire and set the night alight (Hey)
Shining through the city with a little funk and soul
So I’ma light it up like dynamite, woah-oh-oh.”

Also, worth praising is the sleek production, something we’ve come to expect from BTS and K-Pop music in general.  This contemporary disco-pop single is a nice blend of retro, modern pop and contemporary R&B – sweet! Furthermore, I must say, I appreciate the key change that comes at the end of the record; we only rarely get modulations in pop music these days.

Final Thoughts

Are BTS on fire with “Dynamite?” You bet your heiny they are!  “Dynamite” shines thanks to superb production, high-flying, enthusiastic vocals, and incredibly positive, bright and bubbly lyrics.  I’ll gladly go to the disco with BTS!
