BTS, Butter | Track Review

K-Pop royalty BTS remain as locked-in as ever on their utterly infectious, buttery smooth, English-exclusive single, “Butter.”

“Side step, right, left to my beat / High like the moon, rock with me, baby…” Woo, okay now! K-Pop is ‘kind of a big deal’ in the United States.  Strike that – it’s DEFINITELY a big deal in the United States.  The kings of K-Pop stateside is none other than   BTS. Release after release, the   Grammy-nominated heartthrobs seem to be making more and more history. Remaining at the forefront of pop, the boys are back with another hot single, “Butter”.  Even if K-Pop isn’t necessarily your jam, you’ll find yourself eating this B-O-P the F up. 

First and maybe foremost, the production (  Rob Grimaldi,   Stephen Kirk, and   Ron Perry) is sleek to the nth degree.  K-Pop has long had some of the coolest backdrops to fuel their fire and “Butter” is no different.  The backdrop is rhythmic, colorful, and ear catching.  From there, we get to the vocals and the rhymes – exclusively in English, just like “Dynamite”.  Again, it’s ‘all good’ with a killer, tuneful melody, infectious, tongue-n-cheek lyrics, and tasty raps boosting that also boost the ‘swagger’ rating.  In other words, the boys and their team have done any- and everything possible to ensure that all I’s are dotted and T’s are crossed on “Butter.”  Sometimes, pop like this can be a bit too gooey, too schmaltzy, and too novel.  In this case, I think BTS are in a good place, still winning over legions of fans with every move that they make.  They are THE boy band to beat, and the beat goes on with “Butter.”

Final Thoughts

The verdict on “Butter” – it’s buttery smooth baby! To reiterate the successfully checked-off check list: great production, great vocals/raps, and catchy songwriting.  Throw in ample personality as well as BTS simply have IT.
