Brett Young returns with a respectable, new song, “Here Tonight,” which serves as the promo single from his sophomore LP, ‘Ticket to L.A.’
“If I ever get lost in your eyes tonight / Please just let me stay right there a little bit longer.” Following a successful run with his self-titled debut album, Brett Young returns in 2018 with his sophomore LP, Ticket to L.A. Single “Here Tonight” is an example of another love song from the California country singer/songwriter. It wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that it’s built in the mode of a number of songs from his 2017 debut.
Interestingly, “Here Tonight” doesn’t have a traditional country sound initially – it’s more of a pop/rock sound, heavy on guitars. More country sensibility arrives on the chorus, and the second verse. The chorus benefits from its rhythmic nature, as well as the robustness of the sound. Notably, on the second verse, Young incorporates a bit more twang. It’s not necessary, but it’s not a detriment either. Beyond his normal, commanding pipes, the listener hears some select harmonized vocal moments. More notable is the memorable chorus, which sums up the premise and theme of “Here Tonight.”
“We can just stay here in this minute
Lose all track of time
Let the world spin on without us for a while
I’m telling you, we’re just one kiss away from heaven
So baby, hold on tight
‘Cause I want to get wrapped up in your love
So baby, let’s just stay here tonight.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Here Tonight” is an energetic single that serves as a respectable choice as the promo single from Ticket to L.A. There are some inconsistencies in regards to the lane that Brett Young ultimately wishes to reside in, but for the most part, he successfully conveys his message without a hitch. Nothing brand-new or game changing per se, but worthy of spins.
