Brent Faiyaz & DJ Dahi, assisted by Tyler, The Creator, deliver a superb single in “Gravity,” which encompasses L-O-V-E.
Christopher Brent Wood, better known as 🎙 Brent Faiyaz returns with his first single from 2021. 🎵 “Gravity” was written by Faiyaz, 🎙 Tyler, The Creator, 🎼✍ Dacoury Natche, and 🎼✍ Steve Lacy. Natche (🎙 DJ Dahi) also produced the track and is credited as co-artist with Faiyaz. As for co-writer Tyler, The Creator, he drops a guest verse, further sweetening “Gravity.”
DJ Dahi definitely provides Brent Faiyaz with a soulful backdrop to rap and sing over. Faiyaz first complements that backdrop with soulful vocals on the memorable, tuneful chorus, which appears at the onset:
“I’m on But you want me home (Yeah) I'd get you what you want (Ooh) But you want me alone (I'm gone, baby, I'm active)…”
On the first verse, Brent switches from sweet crooning to rapping/spoken word with pitch-shifted vocals. As the title suggests, gravity plays a sizable role:
“She hold me down like gravity, we on the front page of them blogs Would you be mad at me if the whole world knew the shit we was on?”
Later, on the first verse, he comments about his history: “I had my fair share of women, feelings don’t catch me now (Down).” On the second verse, he opts for singing, in buttery smooth fashion once more:
“It’s too much to be your boyfriend, too much And you ain’t making this much easier.”
Tyler, The Creator, of course, comes into picture, providing great contrast on the third verse. It’s nice to hear him dropping bars again, particularly considering Igor was more pop/R&B oriented. Even so, Brent is the star.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, “Gravity” is an awesome return by Brent Faiyaz in 2021. He serves up a decadent performance, fusing rap and R&B quite well. DJ Dahi stitches up a great backdrop, while Tyler, The Creator does his thang as always. Cons – what cons? “Gravity” is the cat’s meow!
