Michigan-bred, Cali-based alternative musician BØRNS thrills on “Sweet Dreams,” the second promo single from his sophomore album, ‘Blue Madonna.’
“Hearts in the cage, hearts in the cage / You, you flipped the page and slipped away.” Love issues seem to plague Michigan bred, Cali-based alternative musician BØRNS on “Sweet Dreams.” BØRNS returns after more than a two-year hiatus with his sophomore album, Blue Madonna (January 12, 2018). “Sweet Dreams” serves as the second teaser track.
On “Sweet Dreams,” BØRNS flaunts his tender, but beautiful vocals. His falsetto is on-point, while his overall execution is smooth, but definitely not devoid of energy and oomph. The songwriting matches the capable vocals, as “Sweet Dreams” is well organized in regards to form, and the lyrics are straightforward and memorable. The biggest selling point in regards to the songwriting is, expectedly, the chorus, which is varied on each occurrence.
“You didn’t even call to wish me sweet dreams / Really thought we made a sweet team / But don’t cry, consider this a lullaby – bye / Sweet dreams.”
Among other strong suits is the production work. Like the songs off of his debut, Dopamine, as well as other singles preceding Blue Madonna, the approach and sound is synth-driven.
Final Thoughts
“Sweet Dreams” is terrific. From a first listen, it sticks, impressing with vocals, production, and songwriting. With miscues eschewed,“Sweet Dreams” is nothing short of glorious.
