Grammy-nominated rapper/singer Blxst delivers a truly authentic, heartfelt single with “Heart Ain’t Empty.”
It’s important to show that you care. The caring isn’t always easily perceptible, particularly to the people who are or should be closest to you in your life. For Grammy-nominated rapper, singer, and songwriter, Blxst, he wants to let it be known that his “Heart Ain’t Empty”. On “Heart Ain’t Empty,” Blxst is incredibly honest and authentic – you buy what he is selling. Accompanying his ‘realness’ is lush, warm production work which features no percussive component – the rhythm is carried by keys and synths, successfully.
Blxst serves up smooth sung vocals, embracing his R&B side here. Even so, his melodic delivery is rhythmic, showcasing a superb cadence and flow. Singing with an impressive tone, he shares plenty of thoughtful, reflective, and sentimental lyrics. “I drop a tear for every second that I missed /… But Gello even though you gone you’ll be missed / Forever in our hearts ‘cause your soul still exists,” he sings in the first verse, remembering a late friend. In the second verse, he’s also heartfelt, regarding the losses experienced by his sister: “I feel for my big sis, she a soldier / Just lost her everything, them nights feel colder / Gotta hit the road again, even though she need a shoulder / I feel guilt, I didn’t hold her.” Of course, the centerpiece – the crème de la crème – is the tuneful chorus:
“Even when the sky is grey, it never rain
Even though I’m miles away, I feel your pain
I been tryna find the words, but can’t explain
I don’t get the words to say, I feel ashamed
Wish I can be there for you in the way you need me
Hope you knowin’ that my heart ain’t empty.”
All told, given his sincerity, and top-notch performance, there’s no doubt in my mind that Blxst’s “Heart Ain’t Empty”. He puts his foot – and heart – into this one!
