Black Veil Brides, Vale © RepublicAndy Biersack and Black Veil Brides delivers an enjoyable record with “When They Call My Name,” a single from their 2018 comeback album, ‘Vale.’

It’s been awhile since Black Veil Brides have released a new album – 2014 to be exact (Black Veil Brides).  Andy Biersack released an enjoyable solo album in 2016 as Andy Black (The Shadow Side), but alas, that wasn’t a BVB project. By the time the band releases Vale (arriving January 12, 2018), it’ll mark nearly a four-year gap between albums.  In advance of Vale, as of publication time, the rock band released a trio of teaser tracks: “When They Call My Name,” “The Outsider,” and “My Vow.”

“When They Call My Name” commences with an orchestral flare, which instantly gives the record a dramatic touch. Some additional synths and piano enter in, preparing the backdrop for Biersack to paint with his distinct vocals.  Paint he does, sounding compelling and powerful as he delivers this mid-tempo rock record.  After showing restraint on the first verse, the chorus packs more punch.

“I need you to tell me everything will be alright / To chase away the voices in the night / When they call my name / Have I gone insane?”

Some “whoas” definitely infuse more energy, not to mention more production work. By the second verse and the following chorus, Black Veil Brides feel fully invested – rocking out.  A ripe guitar solo follows the action.   Biersack then takes the opening line of the chorus to pull back before amplifying energy and emotions like crazy.  By the end, the listener has been given the full effect.

Final Thoughts

So, how does new Black Veil Brides measure up.  All in all, Andy and company are onto something with “When They Call My Name.” This isn’t earth shattering rock, but it is exciting to hear the band’s return.  Few frontmen sound like Andy.
