Billie Eilish, Happier Than Ever [📷: Darkroom / Interscope]Billie Eilish continues to shine on the personal, thoughtful “Your Power,” the third single from her sophomore LP, Happier Than Ever

“Try not to abuse your power.” That is definitely a powerful lyric from 🏆 Grammy-winning alternative pop superstar, 🎙 Billie Eilish. Eilish is set to release her highly anticipated sophomore album, 💿 Happier Than Ever on July 30, 2021.  Judging by the advance singles 🎵 “my future”, 🎵 “Therefore I Am”, and now, 🎵 “Your Power,” there’s no doubt Eilish will have another juggernaut on her hands. Focusing solely on “My Power,” there’s lots to heart.

“…I know we didn’t choose to change / You might not wanna lose your power / But havin’ it’s so strange.” Indeed! The biggest thing to love about “Your Power” is the songwriting – the theme and the lyrics.  Billie Eilish goes big, tackling an ‘abusive’ relationship in some form or fashion.

“She was sleepin’ in your clothes
But now she’s got to get to class.”

While this song is personal to Eilish, she seems to aim at an entire congregation wronged by power – abuse.  Vocally, Eilish sings as beautifully, intimately, and understatedly as always. Subtlety remains her calling card as opposed to histrionics.  Once more, it works brilliantly.  Once more, her brother, 🎼✍ 🎛 FINNEAS, co-writes and produces with great results.  Notably, “Your Power” is more acoustic sounding compared to some of her previous records.  The use of guitar as the driving force within the accompaniment is a very musical choice, much like Billie’s vocal performance.  Focusing once more on the main attraction – the songwriting – Eilish manages to get a catchy, memorable chorus out of this emotionally charged record.

Final Thoughts 💭

All in all, Billie Eilish seems well positioned to take over pop once again in 2021. “Your Power” shows a different level of maturity for a star who has a level of musicianship that transcends her years.  Sure, those who aren’t big-time fans may still desire Eilish to ‘raise her voice’ a bit more, but by my estimations, “Your Power” is another win for Billie, period.
