Billboard 200 Grooves: The xx Scores the Sole Top-10 Debut

The Weeknd (Starboy) spends a third consecutive week at no. 1 (four nonconsecutive overall). The xx finds themselves in the runner-up slot with I See You.

In a skinny edition of Billboard 200 Grooves, The Weeknd spends a fourth nonconsecutive week at no. 1 with Starboy.  The top 10 only adds one new album, courtesy of The xx (I See You) at no. 2.  Beyond The Weeknd and The xx, the chart is relatively blasé, a product of a slow slate of new releases in January.  Nonetheless, there are some happenings on the Billboard 200 dated February 4, 2017.  There are only 15 takeaways this week.

1. The Weeknd (Starboy) spends a third consecutive week at no. 1 and four nonconsecutive weeks overall.

2. The xx debuts at no. 2 on the Billboard 200 with I See You.

3. Soundtracks continue to dominate the top 10 on the Billboard 200. La La Land slips one spot from no. 2 to no. 3. Likewise, Moana dips from no. 3 to no. 4.  Trolls improves from no. 14 to no. 10.

4. Run the Jewels experience a bump as Run the Jewels 3 ascends from no. 106 to no. 13 following its physical release.

5. PnB Rock starts at no. 28 with GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions.

6. Danny Gokey returns with Rise which debuts at no. 32.

7. Bonobo (Migration) debuts quietly at no. 59.

8. The Flaming Lips debuts under the radar with Oczy Mlody at no. 62.

9. Once more George Michael reenters the Billboard 200 with decorated pop album, Faith (no. 64).

10. Sturgill Simpson reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 69 (A Sailor’s Guide to Earth).

11. Colony House debuts at no. 76 with Only the Lonely.

12. Social Club Misfits start at no. 80 with The Misadventures of Fern & Marty.

13. Despite the lengthy availability of the album itself, Marian Hill sees Act One debut at no. 87 on the Billboard 200.

14. Wham! reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 93 (Make it Big).

15. ONE OK ROCK starts at no. 106 with Ambitions.
