Detroit rapper Big Sean keeps it real on hook-less rap single, “No More Interviews.”
“My mistakes are my biggest professors and learning life lessons.” Sigh, what a deep line from Detroit MC extraordinaire, Big Sean. Big Sean recently dropped two new singles, “No More Interviews” and “Bounce Back.” “No More Interviews” arrived first, finding Sean dropping honest rhymes without needing a hook.
The record opens with a mysterious pad, which sounds foreboding. Hook-less, Big Sean employs straight rhymes. Literally, he doesn’t plan to give anymore interviews – there’s too many rumors and chatter.
“So many friends turn to enemies, they frenemies / I don’t know why I act like I’m surprised or it’s offending me / I’m saying, though, I should have learned from Hov and Dame / from Stunna and Wayne, Cudi and YE…”
Throughout the course of “No More Interviews,” he takes plenty of shots including:
“And I’m just not impressed by you n*ggas rapping fast / who sound like one big asthma attack but trash when I’m rapping it back / who you put in your top five and claim they the savior of rap.”
One Genius annotator assesses the aforementioned as a possible shot at Kendrick Lamar…others find it to be good old competition as opposed to disrespect. Beyond a possible shot at K. Dot, he also addresses his status on G.O.O.D.:
“Don’t ask me no stupid questions / ‘are you still signed to YE?’ questions, no Roc Nation questions / or who I’m dating questions, look no more interviews.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “No More Interviews” allows Big Sean to show off his rapping abilities and address personal issues. It’s not the second coming, but highly respectable.
