elcome to 4GEMZ1. Big Sean, “Blessings”
Ft. Drake
Dark Sky Paradise •
Def Jam •
2015
“I’m way up, I feel blessed / Way up, I feel blessed.”
Big Sean spends an entire song,
“Blessings,” dedicated to the blessings he’s been bestowed. “Blessings” marks one of the crown jewels of his 2015 album,
Dark Sky Paradise, as well as one of the best songs from his catalog. He gets an assist from
Drake as he speaks of “Blessings on blessings on blessings.” Drake is responsible for the killer chorus, excerpted above.
“I’m here for a good time, not a long time, you know I I haven’t had a good time in a long time, you know I I’m way up, I feel blessed Way up, I feel blessed.”
Hard-nosed, minor key production ( Vinylz and
Allen Ritter), and an agile flow from Sean only make the blessings that much more substantial.
“At the top of the rap game and progressin’ Check after check, checking off my check list Try and blow my cake, just know that’s a death wish No mistakes in life ever, it’s only lessons.”

2. Big Sean & Metro Boomin, “So Good”
Ft. Kash Doll
Double or Nothing •
GOOD / Def Jam / Republic •
2017
“Head so good, pussy so good / If I could quit my job and fuck you all day, shit, I would.” That pretty much sums up the filthiest, raunchiest song from the 2017
Big Sean/
Metro Boomin collaboration,
Double or Nothing. Big Sean is no stranger to incorporating sex into his music, but “So Good” just might ‘take the cake.’ He goes into graphic detail, taunting his size on the first verse (“Got a long dick, that shit barely fit”). If that’s not enough, on the same verse, he manages to be blasphemous regarding his performance (“Got so deep in that bitch, it felt spiritual / Flood in that pussy, it’s a miracle”).
Featured guest Kash Doll doesn’t let Big Sean have all the fun, as she focuses on how awesome the sex is as well. If Sean seemed like the boss, self-proclaimed “nasty bitch” Kash Doll makes it clear that she holds the reins:
“Last time I let you fuck, it was amazing, shit Love a nigga who ain’t scared to put his face in it.”
Obviously, she’s referring to her own private parts. And just in case it was perfectly clear, she goes on to say, “And I still remember every single place you licked / So I sucked the soul outcha just to thank that dick.” This one’s NSFW.

3. Big Sean, “Sunday Morning Jetpack”
Ft. The-Dream
I Decided. •
Def Jam •
2017
“Thank you, God, for all my setbacks / ‘Cause he the reason I’m able to give back / This feels like my Sunday morning jetpack / Feel like I sent prayers up and got blessed back…”
“Sunday Morning Jetpack” featuring
The-Dream is among the most mellow songs on
I Decided., the fourth studio album by
Big Sean. Furthermore, “Sunday Morning Jetpack” is one of the most beautiful songs. Here, Big Sean thrives in reflective mode, as exhibited by the chorus excerpted above.
The-Dream is used limitedly, on the bridge, but even so, he sounds exceptional. His tenor remains glorious, with the bridge section bringing welcome contrast to the record.
“Praise, so many times I prayed for you I put up prayers for you Praise, for all the times that you prayed for me All the nights you stayed by me All the nights that you cried and all the days I coulda died Because of you I survived, because of you I’m still alive.”

4. Big Sean, “The Baddest”
Detroit 2 •
Def Jam •
2020
“The Baddest” serves as a leading candidate for best banger on
Detroit 2, the fifth studio by rapper
Big Sean. Sean’s energy is off the charts on “The Baddest,” period. Furthermore,
No I.D is beastly behind the boards – understatement!
One of the big lifts to “The Baddest” is the sample. That’s right, “The Baddest” is fueled by a truly badass piece of music: Gojira Tai Mosura” ( Akira Ifukube). Of course, No I.D adds the killer hip-hop beat and the results are EPIC. How could Sean Don not be ‘The Baddest’ propelled by angst-laden, angular symphonic brass lines and dramatic strings?
