Troubled 14-year old Danielle Bregoli, reborn as rapper Bhad Bhabie, drops her debut single, “These Heaux.”
Sometimes, it’s easy to lose faith in the music industry. New artists come along – some out of nowhere – and you ask yourself, ‘why?’ That’s sort of the situation with troubled 14-year-old Danielle Bregoli, better known now as Bhad Bhabie. Thanks to the power that be virally, Bregoli could strike it rich, musical quality aside. As of publication time, she has released three singles: “These Heaux,” “Hi Bich”, and “Whachu Know.”
Beginning with the pros. The biggest pro is the production work is malicious to the nth degree. Hard drums, slick synths, and set in a minor key, this is all fuel for the fire for Bhad Bhabie. Energy, something that she has an abundance of, always pays off. Another pro is the hook – it’s relatively catchy and definitely tough. Also, at two minutes and twenty seconds, this is just the right length – at least for Bregoli.
There is cons. The vocals, specifically the tone, are annoying. The theme itself is shallow, as initially suggested by the title. The lyrics confirm that Bhad Bhabie isn’t going deep here but rather thinking ‘in the moment.’ Nobody expects great depth from any 14-year old, but if it feels like she’s more gimmick than true artist, it’ll grow old quick.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “These Heaux” is at best so-so. The attitude and energy showcased by Bhad Bhabie shouldn’t be ignored. The song, the modus operandi, and everything else seems ‘temporary’ as opposed to ‘permanent.’ Can Danielle Bregoli make a legitimate career out of this? Early on, the answer seems to be no, but you never know.
