Beyoncé, Die With You © ColumbiaBeyoncé showcases the sheer beauty of her voice on her romantic, bare-bones single, “Die With You.”

Beyoncé is one of urban music’s brightest stars.  It seems that everything that Mrs. Carter does turns into gold.  On a new single entitled “Die With You,” rather than shocking the world with another cutting edge and profane performance, Beyoncé tones things down, a lot.  This is a big swing from the likes of “Hold Up,” “Don’t Hurt Yourself,” or “Formation” that graced her stellar Lemonade album.  “Die With You” celebrates her wedding anniversary with hubby, Jay-Z.

From the jump, Beyoncé is filled up with love for her boo.

“I don’t have a reason to cry / And I have every reason to smile / I don’t have a reason to lie / When you’re already reading my mind.”

Essentially, he and her are soulmates.  Soulmates complete one another, and that’s the status of Beyoncé and Jay Z’s relationship after all these years.  He genuine love is confirmed on a brief, but beautiful chorus:

“‘Cause darling I wake up just to sleep with you / I open my eyes so I can see with you / And I live so I can die with you.”

Beyond the first verse and chorus, Beyoncé continues to praise her hubby’s greatness.  She does so by suggesting she’s nothing without him.  She doesn’t need basic human necessities if he isn’t a part of her life.

“And I don’t really need these fingers, If I don’t get to touch your spine / Well I don’t need these things, if I ain’t walking by your side / And I don’t really need to be if I can’t be with you.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, the concept behind “Die With You” is simple.  Everything Beyoncé does, she wants to experience it with the love of her life.  If that means death, then she wants to “die with you.” Ultimately, this is another fantastic performance by the urban contemporary musician, even given the restraint and poise she shows.  The ending, where she screams “yeah” adds character, particularly given how cool, calm, and collected this record is.
