Benson Boone, “Better Alone” | Track Review 🎵

Emerging pop musician Benson Boone shines on the pop ballad, “Better Alone,” which appears on his debut EP, Walk Me Home.

Ah, there’s nothing better than fresh, young talent.  🎙 Benson Boone exemplifies those characteristics, not to mention that he totally looks the part of a star.  Boone first caught my attention when I heard him sing his previous single, 🎵 “In The Stars”.  It was clear, that this 20-year-old was special. Makes perfect sense to me why 🎙 Dan Reynolds (of 🎙 Imagine Dragons) signed him to his label. Boone has unleashed another impressive pop ballad, 🎵 “Better Alone”.  “Better Alone” appears on Boone’s debut EP, 💿 Walk Me Home (July 29, 2022). People, take notice of this superstar in the making!

Boone doesn’t reveal all of his cards at first on “Better Alone”.  He’s more poised on the verses yet still brings ample expression and nuance.  I noticed how pronounced his diction is on the a-words (you could almost mistake him for, say a British artist as opposed to an American).  After building up slow but steady, Benson busts free on the chorus, which is simple but incredibly telling:

“Maybe I’m better alone (Alone, alone)

I’ll say I’ll get better, I won’t (ooh-ooh)

Maybe I’m better alone.”

Besides his soaring lead, the backing vocals are gorgeous, and the production (🎛 Jason Suwito and 🎛 Chris Murdoch) shines brightly.  The backdrop is colorful and sets up Benson superbly.  Of course, the best part of this reflective, heartfelt record is the end from the bridge onward.  Boone showcases some of the most inspired vocals you’ll ever hear from someone so young and still emerging as an artist.

Final Thoughts 💭

As a millennial, yes, we often criticize Gen-Z. But honestly, Gen-Z has got next, and Benson Boone is a prime example of this.  He is incredibly talented, as exhibited in 🎵 “Better Alone”.  Hopefully, the world takes notice and embraces this gifted young artist.
