Benny blanco taps Marshmello and Vance Joy – an unlikely cast of characters – for an enjoyable new pop single, “You.”
Safe to say that 🎙 benny blanco is a busy man – a high-in-demand songwriter and producer. Once more, he’s collaborating with friends. Of course, when you’re blanco, your friends are far ranging. Perhaps that’s why 🎵 “You” ends up being a record that enlists the services of 🎙 Marshmello and 🎙 Vance Joy. It’s an unexpected collaboration, at least personally, but it ends up being a successful one that I honestly didn’t know that I needed.
“You” runs just under three minutes, which is a sufficient length. It commences with those signature pop guitars – always a good sign. Soon enough, we get those lovely, clear vocals by Vance Joy. As always, his tone is buttery smooth – simply gorgeous. Moving on to the backdrop, I enjoy the contrast that’s brought by the drop. Providing some background, for the most part, the verses of the song are what we typically expect from a Vance Joy record. Further adding to that aesthetic (if you’re familiar with Joy’s music) is the addition of a thudding beat on the second verse. There’s a memorable chorus that has a lovely melody that’s incredibly tuneful:
“Oh, you, only you When the night is over out of all the places I could choose I’ll go to you, only you Feel you’re just below the surface, darling All I wanna do is go to you.”
Post-chorus, there is the combination of drop and a post-chorus that highlights select lyrics from the chorus. Like everything else regarding “You,” it’s quite successful.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, benny blanco comes through again with another bop. Again, I never expected Marshmello and Vance Joy to join blanco on the same track, but it actually works. Joy is awesome as always, while the production by blanco, Marshmello, and 🎛 Blake Slatkin works well too.
