Belly, 4 Days © Belly / Roc NationPalestinian-Jordanian-Canadian rapper Belly enlists Compton, California rapper YG for the DJ Mustard/J. Holt-produced single, “4 Days.”

For the most part, rapper Belly delivers sung vocals on the hook of his new single, “4 Days.” That’s not far-fetched as melodic hooks are part of the script for many rappers as of late.  That said, “4 Days” doesn’t feature the typical brief hook – it’s trends on the lengthy side of things.  Despite the length, the majority of the hook is catchy, excelling over the signature production work of DJ Mustard (J. Holt co-produces).

“Thinking you a bad b*tch
Really, you just doing bad b*tch
Fronted on me when I ain’t had shit
Until I came up like a savage…”

Belly switches to unpitched rhymes on the first verse.  Interestingly, following the lengthy hook, the verse is incredibly brief.  While he delivers successful rhymes, the verse feels too brief, sandwiched between two lengthier hooks.  This is where a better balancing act would be welcome.  Featured guest YG arrives on the second verse.  He’s true to self, dropping a verse that’s energetic without being game changing or groundbreaking.  He doesn’t suffer from the length problem of Belly, dropping just the right number of bars.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “4 Days” is an enjoyable banger courtesy of Belly and YG.  Neither artist reinvents the rap game or moves the needle, but the results are enjoyable.  Is “4 Days” incredibly memorable? Nah, but it has its moments – the hook and the production work.
