Polish metal band Behemoth continues to promote atheism and satanism in their energetic, highly blasphemous single, โThe Shit Ov God.โ
โEat my flesh, drink my blood / I am the shit ov God.โ Holy shit! Feels like an appropriate reaction to the intro of โThe Shit Ov Godโ. I am a progressive soul, but I am, nor ever will be, a Satanist โ faith is important to me. That said, even as a Christian, I have always found the Polish metal band, Behemoth to be fascinating. Behemoth has consistently embraced anti-Christian, blasphemous, and satanic elements in their music. That is part of their allure. Behemoth remains โinfernal as hellโ on the promo single and third track from their 13th studio album, The Shit Ov God.
โThe Shit of Godโ is dark, heavy, and hellish. Who would have it any other way or expect something different? This shit that Nergal (Adam Darski) sings about, as well as the rest of the band plays, hits you right in the chest. Nergalโs vocals are coarse and unrefined, while the lyrics are, well, damning. โYou brighten the north, I rage down south,โ Nergal sings in the first verse, continuing, โThis hereticโs homily I offer thee now.โ And, holy shit, the homily, which appears in the chorus, the centerpiece, is heretical to the nth degree. Behemoth scrambles the letters of Jesus and In His Service, transforming them into pessimistic, unholy things:
โI for ingrate
E to eradicate
S for scorn
U for useless
S for the shame
J for the joyless
H to humiliate
S for thy son unloved
We are the shit ov God
We are the shit ov God.โ
Wowโฆ In the second verse, Nergal continues to embrace the left-hand path: โThey say youโre almighty, an illusion I quell / You serve up in Eden, I reign in hell.โ Does Behemoth bring anything brand-new or revelatory to the table with โThe Shit Ov Godโ? No, not necessarily but the band remains firmly committed to its renowned atheistic, satanic vibes. Rock on!
