Pop singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha enlists rapper Lil Uzi Vert for the assist on her resilient single, “Die For a Man.”
“I would never die for a man, die for a man, die for a man.” Right on 🎙 Bebe Rexha! That’s what the 🏆 Grammy-nominated pop singer/songwriter asserts on 🎵 “Die For a Man”, a single that appears on her sophomore album, 💿 Better Mistakes (May 7, 2021). On the brief single, Rexha enlists Grammy-nominated rapper 🎙 Lil Uzi Vert for the assist. Overall, the results are positive for Rexha though not earth shattering or groundbreaking.
One of the best aspects of “Die For a Man” is the overall assertiveness and feistiness of the record. Bebe Rexha makes it clear she will live on and make it without sacrificing herself and her life for any M-A-N, as the aforementioned excerpted lyrics from the chorus suggest. Even before hearing the chorus for the first time, a fired-up Rexha asserts, “If you ever were to say goodbye / Wouldn’t fret, I wouldn’t even cry.” Woo! Later, on the second verse, she adds, “And every time they broke my heart I thought that I would die / But I survived, yeah, I’m alive.” Preach girl! Of course, Lil Uzi Vert provides his own perspective – the man’s perspective of never dying for a woman: “I only die for my gang, that’s the only way / Or I would die for the money if the shit was all blue.” Word!
Beyond the theme and lyrics, the production (🎛 Jason Gil and 🎛 Nick Mira) is great – perfectly suited for both artists. Bebe Rexha sings well, particularly on the chorus which has a pretty sweet melody to work with. As for Lil Uzi Vert, he’s successful as well though I’d argue Bebe had this all on her own.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, “Die For a Man” is an enjoyable and successful single from Bebe Rexha. As aforementioned, it’s not earth shattering or groundbreaking, but it’s certainly well-rounded. The sentiment should be particularly relatable to women, and I guess some of the men will be onboard with what Lil Uzi Vert asserts as well!
