Bebe Rexha enlists the ubiquitous Quavo for “2 Souls on Fire,” an advanced single from her forthcoming, highly-anticipated debut album, ‘Expectations.’
The expectations are high for rising, versatile pop singer Bebe Rexha, who releases her full-length debut album Expectations on June 22, 2018. Rexha, who has collaborated with numerous musicians as well as released a couple of EPs, experienced her breakthrough with single “Meant to Be” featuring Florida Georgia Line. On April 13, she dropped two Expectations singles including the song at hand, “2 Souls on Fire” featuring Quavo.
To reiterate “Meant to Be” is definitely Bebe Rexha’s ‘ace in the hole’ up until this point. That doesn’t necessarily change with “2 Souls on Fire.” Bebe and Quavo trade lines on this easygoing, romantic pop duet. Quavo embraces pitch throughout, meaning he sings as opposed to rapping in any capacity. He’s drenched in autotuned, but what’s new? Nothing really. It works by all means, even if it’s “nothing to write home about.” As for Rexha, she sounds strong and commanding, particularly in her upper register. There’s never been a doubt that she could sing. The production is current and fresh, blending pop and hip-hop seamlessly.
Final Thoughts
So, how does “2 Souls on Fire” measure up? Ultimately, it’s enjoyable, but not incredibly memorable. To reiterate, Bebe Rexha sings wonderfully, while Quavo is, well, Quavo. The production is solid as well. All that considered, the needle isn’t moved here. Still, it packs enough punch to build some interest into Expectations, even if it doesn’t exceed them. See what I did there.
