Pop artist Bazzi drops one of the best singles of his career with the short but absolutely sweet “Crazy.”
It’s been a minute since I listen and reviewed a Bazzi song, so, I thought I owed the young man a spin. It ended up being a very smart choice on my part. Honestly, I’d go so far as to say that “Crazy” is among the best I’ve heard from him to this point. Sure, “Beautiful” and Mine” are his ‘aces in the hole’ (COSMIC), but ‘this right here’ – the future’s bright Andrew, that’s for sure.
“Crazy” runs a mere 2:25 – great for my attention span! It commences with a ticking clock, followed by Bazzi accompanied by old-school piano chords. The production isn’t merely limited to a clock and piano, there are a number of intriguing ideas, with the best yet to come (that chorus y’all). Vocally, Andrew is quite expressive, serving up a heaping dose of swagger. Honestly, “Crazy” represents some of the most personality that I’ve heard from him. His best moment is undoubtedly the chorus, where his falsetto is ripe AF:
“Bitch, you crazy
How’d you get so out of your mind?
Tell me, baby
When did this get so out of line?
Don’t understand, it’s so wild
It’s like a child that’s in denial
Bitch, you crazy (What?)
How’d you get so out of your mind?
Mind, mind, mind.”
It doesn’t stop there though. I like the fact that he throws some spoken-word lyrics during the second verse, further amplifying his personality:
“A world on fire and you couldn’t care less
‘Til we can’t take a breath (Oh no)
And the air in our chest is some air full of death (Oh-oh) …”
Final Thoughts
To reiterate, “Crazy” is one of the best songs I’ve heard from Bazzi up to this point. It’s successful for a variety of reasons, with his vocal performance being chief amongst them. Furthermore, it’s quite accessible, with an easy navigable form, the production is on-point, and the chorus, well, it’s just utterly sublime. “Crazy”– I’m definitely onboard!
