Bazzi, Caught in the Fire [Photo Credit: Bazzi]Following the success of his debut album (COSMIC), specifically single “Mine,” pop and R&B singer Bazzi returns with “Caught in the Fire.”

“Bitch, the future is the youth.” Honestly, pop and R&B singer Bazzi has a point there – the youth will be the leaders of the world one day. He first wowed with his hit single, “Mine,” which appeared on his 2018 debut LP, COSMIC.  Ahead of his forthcoming sophomore LP, the Michigan-bred musician now based in California returned with some new tunes, including “Paradise” and the song at hand, “Caught in the Fire.”

“We let a racist, orange man be the president / Ain’t that just fuckin’ great? (The fuck, man).” Safe to say, Bazzi isn’t a fan of 45. Throughout the course of “Caught in the Fire,” he has no shortage of confidence and swagger on the predominately pop-rapped “Caught in the Fire.”  His fire is fueled by a minimalist backdrop on the verses, while the production becomes lusher on the chorus.  On the verses, in addition to his criticism of President Trump, he references about human hunger for money and material, yet acknowledges it can’t change everything.  He also references faith: “Don’t go to church, but I’m makin’ confessions.” The second verse continues with memorable bars, references popular athletes (Steph Curry and Aaron Rodgers), and as the opening quote of this review suggests, asserting the power of the youth – the new/next generation.

Shifting to the chorus, Bazzi shifts from rapping to singing, showing off his compelling pipes. He sings:

“We’ve been caught in the fire

We’ve lost our desire

We’re beaten and blue

I pray we save ourselves

‘Cause nobody else can do that for you.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Caught in the Fire” gives Bazzi another alluring single to go alongside “Paradise.”  “Caught in the Fire” is well-produced, though don’t call it ‘game changing’ production.  He’s a respectable rapper, though his singing voice is where his ‘bread is buttered.’  At under three minutes in duration, the brevity is among the selling points that make “Caught in the Fire” worthwhile.
