arDe’s debut single “What the Hell, Hey” is song I have been enjoying a lot these past few weeks. It is a track oozing flavour from the moment those 90s electric guitar riffs kick in and the singer from Manchester does not hold anything back here.

This isn’t your typical breakup song. It’s raw, it’s honest, and it feels like barDe crawled inside your brain and pulled out all those messy feelings you’ve been trying to ignore. The scene over in Manchester has just got a lot more interesting with this Irish-American songwriter who refuses to sugarcoat the painful parts of love.
What makes this track so addictive is how it perfectly captures that specific kind of rage you feel when someone just vanishes from your life. You know that feeling when you’re simultaneously furious and heartbroken? When you want to scream but also just curl up in a ball? “What the Hell, Hey” gets it completely.
The production is gorgeously messy in all the right ways. Those vintage instruments create this beautiful ache that sits perfectly under barDe’s vocals, which are so direct they feel like she’s sitting right next to you telling you exactly what happened. There’s something about her voice that reminds me of the best parts of Fiona Apple’s intensity mixed with Regina Spektor’s unexpected turns.
Barde doesn’t try to make heartbreak pretty. Instead, she makes it powerful. The way she builds from vulnerable verses to that explosive chorus feels like emotional catharsis and it is hard to fault her delivery. It’s the kind of song that makes you feel less alone in your mess.
barDe calls this a revival, and honestly, she might be onto something.
