Paul Banks (Interpol) and RZA (Wu-Tang Clan) collaborate on “Anything But Words,” the latest single issue from the forthcoming album of the same title.
Banks & Steelz is a collaborative project between Paul Banks (Interpol) and hip-hop veteran RZA (Wu-Tang Clan). The unlikely duo are set to release their first collaborative album, Anything But Words at the end of the August. After issues several singles, Banks & Steelz issue title track, “Anything But Words.” The results don’t disappoint.
“Anything But Words” is difficult categorize or describe; it’s eclectic and unique. “Words” features top-notch production work. The record slickly combines elements of pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. The drum programming is particularly notable on this cut.
Banks delivers excellent vocals on the hook, serving as a great contrast to RZA. The expansion of the sound on the chorus is another pro. That expansion includes guitar, synth horns, and keyboards. What more is there to say? “Anything But Words” is strange, yet alluringly beautiful.
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Anything But Words” is a fantastic meeting of two brilliant minds. The production is creative, blending numerous stylistic ideas. Paul Banks delivers distinct, beautiful vocals during the chorus and one verse. Expectedly, RZA delivers strong rhymes without question.
