Banks, "Fuck With Myself" © HarvestBanks drops a bomb (an f-bomb specifically) with electrifying, honest single “Fuck With Myself.”

The title of Banks’ new single is enough to entice any listener.  Shock value and serious potty mouth are “all the rage” these days, so seeing the f-word in any song or album title isn’t particularly shocking.  All that considered, “Fuck With Myself” opens up a can of worms before even listening to it.

“Fuck With Myself” naturally lends itself to prejudice, particularly if you’re a dude and you come across the single without any background.  Addressing the elephant in the room, is the record about self-pleasure? Is this record about a different type of self-love, such as emotionally or mentally? The cover art for the single certainly embraces the old sex sells motto as it looks like Banks is about to get it on with…herself.  Sigh, recording artists these days!

“Cause I fuck with myself more than anybody else
It’s all love
I used to care what you think about me
It’s all love
Cause my love so good
So, I fuck with myself more than anybody else.”

Artists love double entendre and there’s clearly double entendre in play on “Fuck With Myself.” But, despite all the perverts (and dudes) that hoped that Banks was being sexual, she’s not. Shockingly, that’s not shocking.  Imagine that.

Final Thoughts

Sexual metaphors have grown more and more prevalent in pop music.  Basically, the point of this quirky, yet brilliant single is that Banks is concerned about her own happiness and well-being as opposed to anybody else’s. Expectedly, a man is the source of her anger and reasoning for her self-love, but “F**k With Myself” can be relatable on numerous levels, not just a relationship. “Fuck With Myself” equals explicit brilliance.
