Grammy-winning Latin superstar Bad Bunny shines on his new single, performed in Spanish (and an outro in Japanese), โYonaguni.โ
โTell me where you are, that Iโll grab a flight for you / And Iโll go to Yonaguni.โ Shout Out Jessica Roiz (of Billboard) for those translated lyrics! Well, Yonaguni, Japan is quite a piece from Puerto Rico, where Grammy-winning Latin superstar
Bad Bunny (Benito Martinez) hails. Nonetheless, heโs willing to go, essentially, to the ends of the earth to find her โ sheโs the one. As always, Martinez has a surefire hit on his hands with
โYonaguni.โ
As weโve come to expect from a Bad Bunny record, he has awesome production supporting him. In this case, Tainy and
Smash David deliver a sleek, warm backdrop to support Martinez. As always, that beat plays a gargantuan role in the overall success, making you want to tap your foot or nod your head. Of course, it is Bunny that is the big reason โYonaguniโ is a total success. I love the warm, bright tone he sings with. Furthermore, the melody is quite tuneful. While thereโs warmth from Martinez, thereโs also a bite that complements the rhythmic nature of the melodic lines. Thematically, as you can infer from above, he focuses on matters of the heart, including S-E-X.
โYou kill it with whichever outfit Baby, you are different Shorty, has a big butt Too, too big And Iโve studied it, Iโm graduating now And Iโll tattoo it on my face.โ
While you can read his intentions, by the end, on the outro (performed in Japanese, mind you), he comes right out and says, โI want to have sex today.โ The silver lining: โBut only with you / Where are you?โ
Final Thoughts
I canโt overemphasize the fact that Bad Bunny always seems to bring the heat. โYonaguniโ is no different. I love the slower tempo, warm production, and of course the melody. Benito Martinez executes like a champ, and honestly, weโd expect no less from an artist who seems to be getting better and better.
