Puerto Rican Latin trap/reggaetón musician Bad Bunny continues to see his stock rising and rising.  With Drake appearing on his latest single, “MIA,” the come-up is sure to continue.  “MIA” clocks in at a respectable length of three-and-a-half minutes. Furthermore, the record is definitely a ‘vibe’, with its smooth, reggaetón, Latin trap-soul production.  Following a brief intro by Bunny, Drake sings the pre-chorus and the chorus – in Spanish, mind you! On the pre-chorus, ‘Drizzy’ focuses on how awesome this particular girl is, and how he’s going to make sure, “I’m going to look for you tonight.” On the following chorus, he tells the girl, “Tell them [other guys] you’re mine.”

Bad Bunny makes his first truly ‘notable’ appearance on the first verse, delivering agile vocals, idiomatic of Latin trap-soul (R&B, pop-rap, Latin blend). Lyrically, he focuses on everything awesome about the girl.  Naturally, he’s protective of her because he wants her for himself.  After following up with the chorus himself, he drops a second verse, patterned similarly.  Even though Drake essentially kicks off “MIA,” Bunny is never overshadowed – we don’t hear from Drake again until the final chorus.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “MIA” is an enjoyable single courtesy of Bad Bunny.  It’s well-produced, well-performed, and overall, well-executed.  Bunny ensures he’s the star, even with a lift from Drake, which is a pro.  Will “MIA” change any lives? Nah, but as aforementioned, the come-up of the young Puerto Rican artist is sure to continue.
