Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny entertains and intrigues in his single, “EL CLúB” where he misses his ex.
“2 de la mañana en el club / To’ el mundo pasándola cabrón / Las mujere’ encima de mí / La hookah, las pastilla’ y un blunt.” So, for those who don’t speak Spanish, what is Grammy-winning Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny (Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio) singing in the intro of his single, “EL CLúB”? He’s in ‘the club,’ having a great time, surrounded by the company of women, enjoying hookah, pills, and a blunt. Yup, he’s a bad boy. But, listen to the chorus, and Ocasio seems to have his ex on his mind. Is she doing well while he’s at the club drunk, wondering?
“EL CLúB” marks another intriguing song from Bad Bunny. It features sleek production which is the expectation of his music. He delivers his typical syrupy vocals with a familiar cadence and flow. Interestingly, there is no percussion within the first minute (during the intro and initial chorus). The keys and synths carry the rhythm. Not long after the one-minute mark, signaled by the first verse, the tempo picks up, and a thudding kick enters the mix. With the ‘change of pace,’ the energy increases. Despite this, Bad Bunny laments his ex! “La disco está llena y a la vez vacía / Porque no está la nena mía (“The club is packed and yet so empty / Because my girl isn’t here”).” The second verse marks another change of pace, with some gorgeous, warm, detuned sounds accompanying Ocasio. Also, the percussive contrasts keep us on our toes, making “EL CLúB” alluring. The sadder musical cues fit the sadder vibes of Bad Bunny, who feels lost (“El futuro me golpeó, en el pasado me dejó / La felicidad se alejó”). In the outro, he continues to question where she is, what’s she doing, and hopes, at the least, he’ll “Be a good memory.” Ultimately, “EL CLúB” is another entertaining, intriguing, and well-rounded Bad Bunny song.
