“B

ut you’re gonna remember my name / The boy that got away / You’re gonna remember my name / You’re gonna be so happy soon…” 🎵 “Remember My Name” is another triumphant record for Danish pop musician 🎙 Asbjørn (Asbjørn Toftdahl Terkelsen) for numerous reasons.  The production work is picturesque – sleek to the nth degree. There’s ample R&B influence on this pop cut, that has more of that urban feel. Also, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that the sound is reminiscent of the late 90s/early aughts.  The star sings with a beautiful tone and performs confidently, with some swagger.  His vocal ad-libs are on point, as is the vocal production. In addition to the lead vocals, there is some fantastic vocal harmonization – always an enhancement. Of those backing vocals, Terkelsen encourages listeners to “Take a moment to appreciate the 20+ track backing vocal arrangement by yours truly.”

Other reasons why “Remember My Name” is a bop? Well, it features a memorable, tuneful chorus, excerpted above. In addition to the tuneful chorus, the melody on the verses is also tuneful and rhythmic.  Besides the musical aspects, the lyrics are awesome as well.  Asbjørn serves up sharp songwriting, which he states has multiple interpretations:

It could be sung to an ex-lover, yes. But it could also be directed towards the people who don’t believe in you.

Switching things up, I love how the bridge section distinguishes itself from the rest of the record; it’s a sublime, unpredictable change of pace. The ending of “Remember My Name” is compelling as well, never ceding interest because of its ‘freshness.’

Final Thoughts 💭

Asbjørn is making great music folks, period.  “Remember My Name” continues sheer excellence by this marvelous Danish musician.  Furthermore, he is enhancing and successfully expanding the LGBTQ+ catalog.  “Remember My Name” fits the catalog perfectly given the ex-lover tilt.  It also works broader as Terkelsen makes it known he’ll – or whoever the doubted, underrated individual is – will be acknowledged and remembered.
