Asbjørn, (Love Like a) Teenager | Track Review 🎵

Danish pop singer/songwriter Asbjørn delivers a colorful and utterly infectious bop with his single, “(Love Like a) Teenager.”

Perhaps Danish pop musician 🎙 Asbjørn (Asbjørn Toftdahl Terkelsen) is more popular in Denmark and Europe in general.  That said, more folks here in the United States need to check out this incredibly talented artist.  Terkelsen first caught my eyes with single 🎵 “Young Dumb Crazy”, set to appear on his third studio album, 💿 Boyology, a project he dubs as “a queer coming-of-age short film.” Adding to the project, which sounds utterly enthralling is Terkelsen’s latest single, 🎵 “(Love Like a) Teenager”. Is it a bop? You bet it is!

“(Love Like a) Teenager” begins abruptly with Asbjørn being the first thing the listener hears.  Pretty terrific initial sound, right? Right! Vocally, Terkelsen sings incredibly smooth and beautifully.  He never forces things, singing with incredible ease and a truly exquisite tone.  When his vocals are harmonized, man oh man is it a sight to see – well, technically, hear! Besides his own suave vocal performance, the vocal production is pretty sweet too.  You know what else is pretty sweet? The production, which is a collaboration between Terkelsen, 🎛  Tom Stafford, and 🎛  Rob Rox.  Terkelsen definitely has a sleek, backdrop to paint those sweet, tuneful melodies atop, with some inspiration from the 90s, believe it or not.  That backdrop includes keys, synths, and drum programming.  One pretty rad music feature, for the music theory nerds out there – there’s a modulation aka key change! A rarity in popular music these days, but more folks need to bring it back. Finally, you can’t mention “(Love Like a) Teenager” without highlighting the songwriting. 🎼✍  Terkelsen is the sole writer, delivering the goods bringing in lyrics that are both infectious and personal.

Final Thoughts 💭

All in all, Asbjørn is the gift that keeps giving.  He makes truly terrific pop songs, including “(Love Like a) Teenager.” Also, another important thing that the Danish artists does is continue to expand the growing LGBTQ+ 🏳️‍🌈  catalog.  “(Love Like a) Teenager” is winner, period.
