A$AP MOB returns with a star-studded, flex track, “RAF,” named after Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons.
The A$AP MOB returns with a new single, “RAF.” Joining the fun for “RAF” is A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Quavo, Lil Uzi Vert, and Frank Ocean. First things first. WTF does RAF mean or what does it refer to? RAF refers to the Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons. He is explicitly named on the second verse by Quavo. Before Quavo steps to the mic, A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti take the reins on the hook. For the record, it’s more Rocky than Carti:
“I done come up / Bustin’ down a whole bag / Broke n*gga, step back / Why don’t you peep a n*gga’s swag / You don’t even gotta ask / What are those? What is that? / Please don’t touch my Raf / Please don’t touch my Raf.”
A$AP Rocky handles the first verse, finding every opportunity to support his fashion designer and label of choice. Essentially, this verse shows the rapper flexing – flaunting off his come up.
Quavo arrives for the second verse, opening with a three-peat of the lyrics:
“Ho, don’t step on my Raf Simons.”
Lil Uzi Vert arrives for the third verse, asserting:
“I swear to God these n*ggas be haters / They be hatin’, I feel all the vapors.”
Essentially, he spits about living the life, whether it’s sex with all sorts of girls, bragging about his Rolls Royce Wraith, or the luxury brand clothes. Frank Ocean appears on the fourth and final verse, quasi-rapping, quasi-singing. He’s “all over the place” lyrically, but it’s certainly interesting if hard wrap one’s finger around.
Final Thoughts
“RAF” is an interesting flex record from A$AP MOB. It’s not a classic, but it’s certainly worth spinning. Memorable? Eh, depends on the listener, but there’s something here.
