Riverside, CA alternative-indie pop/rock band Arrlo drop a captivating, ear catching third career single with “Blood Art.”
When I inquired about the uniqueness of Cali alternative-indie pop/rock group 🎙 Arrlo (interviewing them in March 2021), the answer given was, “The main factor of our uniqueness lies in our lead singer being a transgender male.” Indeed, that puts vocalist 🎙 Sunni Suede in rare company. Beyond that unique factor, the band has plenty to offer from a purely musical perspective, something they’ve showcased on their early musical output. 🎵 “Blood Art”, which marks the band’s third career single, arrives nearly four months after 🎵 “WFTWTE”, an awesome offering to say the least. “Blood Art,” another captivating record all in all, continues to showcase the potential and promise of this rising band.
Per Arrlo, “Blood Art” “tackles the subject of toxic and abusive relationships.” Deep. They add, “Many of us glorify and cling to severely sub-par relationships just for the sake of delaying loneliness. Some people can’t be saved, so it’s best to walk away while you can.” That’s ‘real talk’ for sure, something superbly captured by the band on “Blood Art” lyrically and emotionally. From the start, the music is incredibly energetic, with ripe guitars (🎙 Jimmi Stepanik), an anchoring, active bass line (🎙 Alex Vera), and truly locked-in, pummeling, drums (🎙 Jimmy Brooks). As for the front man, Sunni Suede, he sounds utterly fantastic, flaunting a beautiful, commanding vocal, yet never ‘forcing the issue.’ He’s the man, what can I say? Worth noting, Suede has a tuneful melody to work with – always a PRO. This begins with the verses and continues through the ‘bloody art’ of the centerpiece, the chorus. Furthering his excellence is the vocal production – another instance of great musical execution.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, Arrlo continues to impress just THREE singles in – you read right! “Blood Art” is another awesome record that shows a band that’s ready to breakthrough in a big way. The pieces – rather the members and their respective roles – all work together cohesively. Their music always seems to yield a strong message, something “Blood Art” nails. This band and the material they’ve released as of yet, definitely tickles my musical fancy! Rock on boys!
