Armin van Buuren, Norman Jean Martine, and LAWRENT, with Alok, deliver a brief but potent dance gem with “Euphoria”
“Euphoria every time we touch / I feel the high, I feel the rush.” Ooh-la-la! Armin van Buuren, Norman Jean Martine, and LAWRENT collaborate on the short but sweet single, “Euphoria”. The song also features a fourth credited artist, Alok. “Euphoria” was written by van Buuren, Martine, LAWRENT, and Alok alongside Brad Mair, John Dirne, and OHYES. Lots of cooks in the compositional kitchen! Van Buuren, Dirne, OHYES, Alok, and LAWRENT produced it. Notably, another writer should be credited. Euphoria interpolates the Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) classic, Für Elise.
A quote from Für Elise is referenced at the onset, setting the tone. Norma Jean Martine impresses with her nuanced, husky lead vocals. She sets the love-oriented tone of “Euphoria” in the verses. “We’re fallin’ deeper as we go,” she sings in the first, continuing, “The open road’s where we can roam tonight.” In the second verse, she and her partner are “Rollin’ high speed until we crash / We’re running wild, we won’t look back tonight.” Word! The chorus is where her bread is buttered. It features catchy lyrics (excerpted at the top) and a tuneful melody. That melody lifts off of Für Elise in all its glory.
“Baby, if you’re down, I’ll lift you up
You know this love is made for us.”
Beyond Jean Martine’s fabulous vocals, the accompanying instrumental is marvelous. The production is bright and picturesque. The synths pop, and the groove ‘grooves hard.’ The beat goes hard during the chorus. Like many dance records, there’s a build and – wait for it – the drop! Ultimately, Armin van Buuren, Norman Jean Martine, LAWRENT, and Alok deliver a brief but potent gem in “Euphoria” perfect to keep us warm through the frigid winter!
