Ariana Grande, 7 Rings [Photo Credit: Republic]Grammy-nominated pop standout Ariana Grande continues to drop hot new music with her ultra-sleek third single post-Sweetener, “7 Rings.”

“Been through some bad shit, I should be a sad bitch / Who woulda thought it’d turn me to a savage?” Wow – fierce! Grammy-nominated pop artist Ariana Grande continues release new singles much sooner than expected following the release of her 2018 album, Sweetener.  After scoring a no. 1 hit with “Thank U, Next”, and delivering a sick slow jam with “Imagine”, ‘young Mariah’ is back with another sleek gem, “7 Rings.”

“7 Rings” features moody production from the onset – dark, enigmatic, and set in a minor key. Notably, the record lifts from the melody of “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music.  Sleek, hip-hop oriented cues are in full throttle during the addictive, instantly catchy chorus (more on that later). Ariana Grande is confident AF on the pre-chorus and chorus sections.  The first pre-chorus exemplifies a flex-fest. Later, the second does the exact same:

“My wrist, stop watchin’, my neck is flossin’
Make big deposits, my gloss is poppin’
You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it
I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.”

The chorus is simple, but effective:

“I want it, I got it, I want it, I got it…
You like my hair? Gee, thanks, just bought it
I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it (yep)”

In addition to the bold line that commences this review on the first verse, on the second verse, Grande asserts, “Whoever said money can’t solve your problems / Must not have had enough money to solve ‘em.” Damn.

Final Thoughts

As always, the biggest takeaway about any Ariana Grande are the vocals.  As always, she delivers vocals that are on-point, exhibiting a superb tone.  “7 Rings” as a record is yet another winning offering post-Sweetener, foreshadowing another incredible album from the seemingly unstoppable pop star.
