Midwest-bred, Cali-based pop singer Anthony Russo is willing to change, opening himself up to love on his relatable new single, “Kings and Queens.”
Rising Midwest-bred, Cali-based pop artist Anthony Russo is back with fresh new music. In case you are unfamiliar with him, I highly recommend checking out his sweet, urban-pop ballad, “2:AM.” “2:AM” marked by first experience with Russo, and he’s definitely remained on the radar since, whether it’s a slick-talking, swagger-laden guest spot on the G-Eazy single “Rewind,” or merely earning a spot on the 11 Songs That Give Off California Vibes with his 2017 gem, “California.” Enough ‘rewinding’ already, as November 20, 2018 saw Russo release two new singles – “It’s a Risk” and “Kings and Queens.”
“So tell me if you want it like that (like that) / I can make you run, come back / Cause I been thinking since the day I met ya / Maybe I could use a queen too.” On “Kings and Queens,” Anthony Russo has clearly found a special girl, one he’s willing to be his ‘queen.’ In that particularly excerpted line from the second chorus, Russo spoils us with his lovely, potent falsetto. For the majority of “Kings and Queens,” we hear Russo’s confident tenor (full, chest voice), as he sings about this particular girl changing him – making him open himself up to love.
“Little bit insane, don’t change me
Coming for my name, you crazy
Always keep the same rotation
That’s how I am
Love is just a game, I gave up
Now you wanna change my ways up
Got me with the way you frame it, oh yeah.”
He goes on to move beyond being a “self-made bachelor” and “living like a young king do” to entertain having a queen.
Final Thoughts
There’s a legitimate debate whether “It’s a Risk” or “Kings & Queens” is the better Anthony Russo single. For the most part, it’s a toss-up as both singles are great additions to his growing collection. Perhaps “Kings & Queens” is has a slight edge from a personal perspective – the right person can definitely ‘open you up’ and change your perspective on love.
