Rising LA-based pop artist Anthony Russo continues to build a name for himself with his latest short, sweet, and slick, urban-pop single, “I Jusswon.”
“Wobbly goodness. A record I’ve wanted to share with you for a long time, I hope you feel mysteriously sexy…” Those are the words from the horse’s mouth – rather the artist’s mouth, Anthony Russo. The Los Angeles-based, urban-pop artist (originally from St. Louis, MO) is steadily building a name for himself. If you haven’t heard “2:AM”, well, you’re totally missing out. He returns strong with “I Jusswon.”
“I Jusswon” is another crossover-styled record from Russo, landing in the sweet spot of pop and urban contemporary. It’s a sleekly-produced, rhythmic slow jam, but not too slow. This is a great lane for Russo, who impresses with expressive, nuanced pipes, chocked-full of swagger. In regards to form, it’s relatively straightforward (no quirks), and brief, clocking in at under three minutes. Works for me. The premise? Dancing with this beautiful girl and being willing to do whatever to be with her. “I can hold you down, just let me know / Baby, all I wanna do is show you / So don’t hide it, don’t hide it.” By being with her, Russo feels like “I just won.” Unsurprisingly, the chorus is among the best moments. Russo’s energy is beastly here as he exhibits mad attitude on the repetitive, titular lyrics.
“Something ‘bout the way that you move so sexy / Hands up on your waist in the two door flexin’ / I do it if it feels right, baby girl, it feels like / Baby girl, it feels like / I just won, I just won…I do it if it feels right, baby girl, I got nothing to lose.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, “I Jusswon” is a pleasant, well-executed urban-pop record. Anthony Russo continues show great potential. Hopefully, he breaks through big someday in the near future.
