Andy Grammer, Fresh Eyes | Track Review 🎵

Pop singer/songwriter Andy Grammer returns with another potential [chivalrous] hit with subtle, yet enjoyable single, “Fresh Eyes.”

Andy Grammer has seen his profile elevated lately. After moderate success with “Keep Your Head Up,” Grammer hit the big time with “Honey, I’m Good..” After embracing success with “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah),” Grammer returns with “Fresh Eyes.” “Fresh Eyes” prudently differentiates itself from past hits, but is very much an Andy Grammer song.  

“Fresh Eyes” Begins abruptly. It instantly captures attention but doesn’t prepare the listener for what’s to come.  Ultimately, it’s subjective whether such an approach is positive or negative.  Abrupt beginning or not, the production is respect – subtle and cool, yet quite effective.  As “Fresh Eyes” progresses, a few more sounds are added, but it’s never over-produced or overdone.

Andy Grammer is always the focal point.  He delivers excellent vocals, showcasing a smooth, silky tone. Much like “Honey, I’m Good” or “Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah),” Grammer flaunts his swagger.  The best example of this is a memorable lyric from the pre-chorus:

“You dress up just a little and I’m like, ‘oh damn’.”

The chorus drives “Fresh Eyes” home:

“So suddenly I’m in love with a stranger / I can’t believe that she’s mine / now all I see is you with fresh eyes, fresh eyes” 

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Fresh Eyes” is thoughtful & chivalrous.  Nobody does chivalrousness better than Andy Grammer.  The single features excellent production work; the subtlety is ingenious.  The abrupt beginning is off-putting – a brief intro wouldn’t have hurt.
