Anderson East shines on his new, soulful single, “All on My Mind.” A lack of magnificence never crosses the audience’s mind listening to it.
Anderson East is one interesting fellow. Yes, there are plenty of interesting people in this game called music. What makes East interesting is that he’s a bit hard to categorize. The Alabaman definitely has some country in him, but he also has mad soul. His debut album, Delilah was a blast. His future endeavors also seem to be on the up-and-up, at least judging by his new single, “All on My Mind.” The dude is definitely talented.
From the jump, the music is incredible. Dramatic, marked strings, robust bass line, and biting guitar chords. Anderson East makes a statement even before he utters his one note of his vocal performance. Sometimes, music artists don’t put enough weight on the impact of ‘the first impression.’ Here, the first thing that East offers is epic – filled with strength and the utmost confidence.
He adds to the confidence established by the production by delivering ferocious vocals. Again, the Alabaman brings all facets of himself out here. He’s soulful, but he also rocks hard. The grit and bite within his pipes – that roar when he’s really riled up – it’s breathtaking. He’s southern through and through, and in this instance, that’s a pro to the nth degree. Focusing so much on the sound and vocals, what about the song itself? Sound and overall, it’s well-conceived. Arguably, the greatness of East outpaces “All on My Mind,” but as its own entity, there’s no objections whatsoever.
Final Thoughts
The best way to describe “All on My Mind” and Anderson East? East is a beast. The full package. Great singing, sound songwriting, and excellent production. A fusion of multiple styles and influences. The list goes on and on. A.E., keep it up. You’re certainly a G – in the most musical way possible.
