Amara La Negra, Insecure © BMG Rights ManagementRising Afro-Dominican-American urban-pop artist Amara La Negra shines on her infectious single, “Insecure.” Judging by the quality, she has no reason to be the least bit insecure.

Could Amara La Negra be the next big star? Maybe, just maybe! She’s off to a quick start with her new single, “Insecure.” If her name sounds somewhat familiar, that’s because La Negra appeared on the VH1 show, Love & Hip Hop: Miami.  She also very vocal about the matters of society, including Afro-Latino racism.  There’s a lot to La Negra, but we’ll focus on the matter at hand, examining “Insecure.”

La Negra possesses a compelling, robust alto, first and foremost.  This is arguably the biggest takeaway from “Insecure.” The Afro-Dominican-American artist has an impressive, rich set of pipes.  Furthermore, she brings plenty of attitude and playfulness to her vocal performance.  This is particularly great, given the Latin-tinged urban-pop sound of “Insecure,” which includes a couple of Spanish lyrics. In addition to the voice, the songwriting is catchy, specifically the infectious chorus.

“You say I’m loca, crazy

Said I been tripping lately

I wanna know baby

Does that make me insecure, mi amore

Mi amore

Does that make me insecure

Mi amore

Does that make me insecure?”

Additionally, “Insecure” brings a solid, sleek backdrop, which fuels Le Negra’s artistic fire.

Final Thoughts

All in all, Amara La Negra ‘brings the heat’ on “Insecure.” Judging by the quality and enjoyable nature of this single, she doesn’t have any reason to be the least bit insecure.  Strong vocals, catchy lyrics, and well-rounded production make “Insecure” a winner.
