The Hunchback of Notre Dame [📷: Disney]One of the best soundtracks from the Disney Renaissance is The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  The crown jewel from the soundtrack is “Hellfire” – one of Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz’s masterpieces! However, one shouldn’t overlook the sweet, thoughtful pop/R&B ballad, “Someday”.  “Someday” is performed by one of the hottest groups in the 1990s, Grammy-winning R&B/pop collective, All-4-One.  Most renowned for their no. 1 hit, “I Swear”, the collective slays on “Someday” too. Walter Afanasieff, one of the ‘it’ producers and songwriters of the ‘90s, produced this smooth cut.

fire sunglasses“Someday / When we are wiser / When the world’s older / When we have learned,” All-4-One sings, reverently, adding, “I pray / Someday we may yet live / To live / And let live.” Beautiful words, gorgeous music, and sublime vocals.  “Someday” looks to the future to be better, more accepting times than the past.  In the film, Quasimodo is judged because he is deformed, despite having a heart of gold.  The Gypsies are looked down upon as outcasts.  “Someday,” released before ‘the new millennium,’ sees better days ahead: “Godspeed / This bright millennium / On its way / Let it come someday.” From start to finish, All-4-One kill it! The solo vocals and group vocals are locked in, bringing out the hopeful, meaningful, and poetic lyrics. “Someday” peaked at no. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold.  Notably, All-4-On re-recorded “Someday” on their 2015 album, Twenty+.  Like the original, the re-recording is top-notch.  The musicianship is stupendous.  Nearly 30 years after its release, “Someday” remains moving.
