Alfie Arcuri, Happy | Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈

In the 9^th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2024), we highlight the song, “Happy” performed by Australian pop singer, Alfie Arcuri.

Prepare to beam with P-R-I-D-E 🏳️‍🌈! Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 celebrates, embraces, and spotlights songs by LGBTQ musicians or allies.  In this column, we provide background and insight into the respective musician(s), as well as analyze + go gaga over the decadent bops being served up.  Furthermore, when the music dictates deeper, more transcendent discussion, we ensure the point is articulated to the fullest.  All styles of music are welcome while the songs can be classics or brand-spanking new. So, without further ado, in the 9^th edition of Beaming with Pride 🏳️‍🌈 (2024), we highlight “Happy” performed by Alfie Arcuri.

“Memories we made / Feels like only yesterday / When you were a part of me.” Alas, for Australian pop singer Alfie Arcuri, their relationship has come to an end.  Even so, on “Happy”, written by Séb Mont Holdinghausen, he’s still in his feels for his ex.  In the pre-chorus, he continues singing, “What a silly mess we made / Never knew it would end this way / Now I find it hard to breathe.” The regret of the disillusion of this union is perceptible throughout “Happy” thanks to the authentic, heartfelt vocals of Arcuri.  His tone is EVERYTHING – gorgeous and rich.  During the pre-chorus, the listener is spoiled with harmonized vocals.

The pre-chorus also benefits from a tuneful melody.  Likewise, the verses and chorus thrive off tunefulness too.  The sincere lyrics don’t hurt the cause either.  In the verses, Alfie recollects memories with his ex – the best moments of their relationship.  In the chorus, the centerpiece, Alfie wishes his ex- well:

“I hope that you are happy

And all your dreams come true

I hope that you can find the love we had with someone new

And baby, I am sorry

For what I put you through

I hope that you cand find the dreams we had with someone new

I hope that you are happy, happy.”

Aww… so sweet.  In the third and final verse, Arcuri pours out his heart, sharing his regret for ending things, and confessing he still loves them. In the soaring chorus/outro that follows, with all his heart, he selflessly wishes happiness for him, which is an arduous yet mature step. Adding to the beauty of this ballad is an utterly sublime instrumental.  Piano and warm strings are always a recipe for sheer excellence.  “Happy” marks fabulous song from Alfie Arcuri, one that truly makes me beam with pride listening to it.
