Rising singer/songwriter Alec Benjamin shows massive potential on his heartfelt new single, “Let Me Down Slowly.”
“The night is cold in the kingdom / I can feel you fade away.” How poetic. Those thoughtful, emotional lyrics come at the hands of rising Phoenix, Arizona-bred, singer/songwriter Alec Benjamin. Benjamin has already experienced some success, thanks to his distinct, 2016 single, “The Water Fountain”, with the music video sitting at nearly 5.5 million views at press time. One of the things that makes Benjamin so unique is his voice (more on that later). He impresses on his heartfelt new single, “Let Me Down Slowly.”
“Let Me Down Slowly” is what you describe as a good ole, sound pop record. ‘Good ole, sound pop record’ doesn’t mean boring or middle of the road. It’s a well-produced record, for example, without being incredibly ornate. Nothing wrong with that. Alec Benjamin delivers a strong vocal performance, without the need for lots of flashiness or gospel histrionics. Perhaps he isn’t the king of runs, but he also eschews gimmicks, which are far overdone in popular music in general.
Benjamin does his thing on “Let Me Down Slowly,” and it pays dividends. He has a beautiful voice with a stellar, boyish tone. He expressively delivers the lyrics, bringing emotions and the song itself ‘on home’ on the chorus. Simply put, his little heart can’t take any sudden or extra pain.
“Could you find a way to let me down slowly?
A little sympathy, I hope you can show me
If you wanna go then I’ll be so lonely
If you’re leaving baby let me down slowly.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, Alec Benjamin shows why he’s ‘a star in the making’ – one to watch. “Let Me Down Slowly” is well-rounded without ‘turning the world upside down.’ The key word is sound. The potential is clear and should prove incredibly fruitful for Benjamin.
