Drag queen extraordinaire Alaska Thunderfuck embraces ‘athleisure’ and comfort in her brief, entertaining single, “SWEATPANTS.”
“Idon’t wanna party / I don’t wanna dance / I just wanna stay at home / In sweatpants.” Excuse me? Hmm, so let me get this straight Alaska Thunderfuck (Justin Honard). Alaska, drag queen extraordinaire, is hanging up partying shoes in favor of sweatpants? That seems to be the modus operandi of the brief but entertaining “SWEATPANTS”. It’s even more surprising considering how much fabulousness goes into being a drag queen – the makeup, the fashion. But, if that’s what Alaska wants, then so be it! Plus, we all know, there’s nothing sexier than a pair of grey sweatpants.
But enough thirst – let’s focus on “SWEATPANTS” the song and not men in grey sweatpants 😝! “Casual apparel / Just give it a chance,” Alaska asserts. Why is she focused on the “athleisure” life? It seems she’s accomplished everything in her career and lifetime. “I’ve been to paradise, but I’ve never been to me / There’s only one thing if I ever have the chance / I wanna stay at home in sweatpants.” Fair enough, and when you think of it from that perspective, it makes sense. Alaska engages, showing off her big personality. The singing is solid, with the chanted, spoken lyrics ranking among the most interesting. The production from Killingsworth Music Recording (Tomas Costanza, Ashley Gordon, and Paul Coultrup) is strong too, thanks to those sharp synths and a sick beat. Will sweatpants change your life? Yes, from a leisure and visual standpoint. Will “SWEATPANTS” (the song) change the game? Maybe or maybe not. Who cares though because Alaska Thunderfuck does what she does best – entertains!
