Against Me! returns with electrifying promo single “333.” “333” serves as the first snapshot from the forthcoming album, Shape Shift With Me.

They’re back – Against Me! that is! Laura Jan Grace and company certainly know how to rock, and single “333” is no exception. “333” serves as the promo single for the forthcoming album Shape Shift With MeShape Shift With Me follows the band’s critically-acclaimed, personal Transgender Dysphoria BluesTransgender Dysphoria Blues was originally reviewed on Brent Music Reviews. An updated version appears here on The Music Hype.

Transgender Dysphoria Blues aside, the focus here is “333.” “333” opens with a pummeling drum groove.  Enthusiastic guitars enter, establishing a major key – who would’ve thought? Unsurprisingly, Grace’s vocals are aggressive and fiery with passion. The melodic lines are incredibly rhythmic, with Grace quasi-singing and quasi speaking.

The chorus is quite assertive, catchy, and passionate:

“All the devils that you don’t know / can all come along for the ride / I wanna be as close as I can get you”

The chorus isn’t the only superb lyrical moment.  Verse two drops a bomb – besides the obligatory f-bomb of course!

“Visible mutations fading right before you f*cking eyes / cycles of death and regeneration of absence and loss”

To quote Big Sean, “that sh*t get deep.” Sigh.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “333” is an adrenaline rush that burns from the jump.  While LaShun Pace is the furthest thing from Against Me!, to quote the gospel singer, “all things [are] working.” Incredible catchy chorus, aggressive vocals – everything is sound.
