Grammy-winning pop artist Adele returns formidably on “Easy on Me,” a personal promo single from her anticipated fourth studio album, 30.
“I
know there is hope in these waters / But I can’t bring myself to swim / When I am drowning in this silence / Baby, let me in.” Woo – that hit deep! The return of 🎙 Adele is a big deal – that’s not debatable. The pop singer/songwriter tends to go long gaps of time between albums. 💿 30, just her fourth studio album, arrives six years after 💿 25 (2015), which arrived four years after 💿 21 (2011). While the hiatuses are lengthy, what hasn’t changed between albums is the voice. On her promo single 🎵 “Easy on Me”, the 🏆 Grammy-winning musician remains elite vocally. The voice is the biggest selling point of “Easy on Me,” which Adele co-wrote with 🎼✍Greg Kurstin. Kurstin, a mastermind when it comes to the boards, does work on the production end of things too. That said, “Easy on Me” is primarily a piano ballad, though we add a robust bass line and some light drum programming (nothing too crazy). With soaring vocals, sound production, and a tuneful melody, the last box to be checked off is songwriting. Given the fact that it is ballad, it’s the perfect type of song that allows Adele to get personal. Divorce seems to be the primary culprit of the singer’s petition for ‘ease,’ though she also asserts, “I was still a child / I didn’t get the chance to / Feel the world around me.” That seems to open the door to a variety of things that have affected her in her life.
Final Thoughts 💭
So, did Adele return ‘come through’ much like she did when she returned in 2015? “Easy on Me” is characteristic of the artist and plays to her strengths – the voice, the voice, the voice. Also, the songwriting is strong, getting personal, hence, exhibiting authenticity. That said, I’m not as wowed by “Easy on Me” as I was with 🎵“Hello” in 2015. Ultimately, it’s just nitpicking as it’s always a great day when Adele active in the music scene.
