With random, risqué playlists being a thing we do at The Musical Hype, this latest compilation is no different. It’s an A-B-C list of songs about bad things.
To quote the honorable G-Eazy, this is one “Random” playlist. Sure, Gerald technically rapped, “This shit is not random,” but we’re not being technical here. This playlist is sort of like an everything bagel – it has everything. Likely, judging by the material, it’s “everything that’s bad for you.” But whatever – who’s counting calories anyways? It’s a smorgasbord of serial killers, mass murderers, a cult leader, and some paraphilias. How does the alphabet come into play? Something related to the selected song must start with the given letter, such as “A” is for “apple,” “B” is for “bear,” etc.
25 out of 26 of the songs that appear on this list have appeared on at least one other playlist, many on multiple. There’s one newbie that appears here for the very first time. Without further ado, here is ABC: Songs about serial killers, mass murderers, and paraphilia

Exhumed, “Instruments of Hell”
Album: Platters of Splatter, 2004
Death metal band Exhumed tackle the disgusting human being on the boisterous, indecipherable “Instruments of Hell.” The lyrics certainly aren’t decipherable without them in front of you. Nonetheless, even without access to them, the vibe is certainly hellish like Fish was. This is a frightening listen, that ends with the lyrics, “Your fucking ass is mine.”
“My instruments of hell will rend your mortal shell / On human viscera and meat I dine tonight / With my cleaver, knife, and blades your rear quarters are flayed / I’ll take it out of your hide.”

2. B is for Bundy, as in Ted Bundy.
Jane’s Addiction, “Ted, Just Admit It”
Album: Nothing’s Shocking, 1988
“Sex is [definitely] violent” in the hands of Ted Bundy. “Ted, Just Admit It…” is the lengthiest song off Nothing’s Shocking, the iconic sophomore album by hard rock/metal band Jane’s Addiction. Interestingly, the album’s title appears throughout the course of the record. Perry Farrell is on autopilot to say the least.
“Camera got them images / Camera got them all / Nothing’s shocking… / Showed me everybody / Naked and disfigured / Nothing’s shocking / And then he came / Now sister’s / Not a virgin anymore / Her sex is violent…”
Adding fuel to the fire is Jane’s Addiction in their prime, delivering a biting, malicious backdrop, not to mention incorporating Bundy’s vocals into the mix.

Guttural Secrete, “Coprophilic Asphyxia”
Album: Reek of Pubescent Despoilment, 2012
Guttural Secrete. What a name. That said, seems like a fitting one for a death metal band. Guttural Secrete cover some suspect stuff musically, as evidenced by “Coprophilic Asphyxia,” a colorful song from an album entitled Reek of Pubescent Despoilment. That’s some twisted stuff. It goes deeper, as Guttural Secrete cover two paraphilias in the process: coprophilia and asphyxiophilia.
Coprophilia, according to Encyclopedia.com, is, “The condition of desire for sexual gratification and sexual arousal derived from the smell, taste, or sight of feces or from the act of defecation. It is commonly referred to by the slang term scat.” Yep, Guttural Secrete definitely have the scat covered:
“Obsessing over piss and shit / Fecal orgy shit stained I sit / Gagging from the stench so vile / Suffocating with a smile / Puking on myself, regurgitating fecal matter / Feels like razor blades carving up my throat.”
As for the asphyxiophilia, it is a sexual masochism disorder, according to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health: “Asphyxiophilia…is characterized by the use of various strategies to achieve the level of oxygen depletion need to enhance sexual arousal, such as self-strangulation, hanging, suffocations with an object…up to a point of loss of consciousness.”
In the case of “Coprophilic Asphyxia,” the feces are the cause of the asphyxiation.
“Blood clots begin to form in my veins from the blockage of brown / Losing oxygen to my brain as my body shuts itself down / Laid out my cadaver is lifeless / Covered in a pool of my own shit.”

4. D is for Dahmer, as in Jeffrey Dahmer.
Kesha, “Cannibal”
Album: Cannibal, 2010
Kesha has a knack for living on the edge. She proved as much on “Cannibal.” Where does Jeffrey Dahmer come into play? Dahmer abused his victims sexually and ate them. Kesha doesn’t literally eat her victims – boys – but she adapts Dahmer’s repulsiveness lyrically.
“I eat boys up / Breakfast and lunch / Then when I’m thirsty, I drink their blood / Carnivore, animal, I am a cannibal / I eat boys up / You better run.”
The lyrics are successful, but creepy. The first verse is incredibly suggestive, lining up TOO WELL with Dahmer’s crimes.
“I have a heart, I swear I do / But just not baby, when it comes to you / I get so hungry when you say you love me… / You’re the kind of guy I’d stalk in school / But now that I’m famous, you’re up my anus / Now I’m gonna eat you fool.”
Again, Kesha is portraying herself as a maneater in the figurative sense. Dahmer was literally a maneater. Also, one questions if anus reference coincidentally plays into Dahmer’s sexuality. Beyond that specific reference, how many of the lyrics are coincidental? Kesha even asserts “I’ll pull a Jeffrey Dahmer.” In reality, during high school, Dahmer was known for his practical jokes. According to Gawker, he died because of them.

Candlemass, “The Bleeding Baroness”
Album: Death Magic Doom, 2009
Swedish doom metal band Candlemass do the dark, damning thing well. “The Bleeding Baroness” arrived on their 2009 album, Death Magic Doom. “The Bleeding Baroness” has three distinct sections. At the beginning and later on, it’s in a slowish triple meter. The guitars are incredibly dark and heavy in tone. The lyrics at the beginning only add to the enigma, foreshadowing what’s to come.
“Can you see her, slender and pale? / But so graceful she walks down the stairs / A perception of musk fills the air / The kiss of darkness, the baron’s own heir.”
The second distinct section is in good ole common time. It’s still heavy, capturing the self-indulgence and lust of Elizabeth.
“She’s so ruthless…evil, grotesque / In her glory…the Baroness…godless / Blood is precious…so delicious / Vampire white…ferociously vicious bleed.”
Then, there’s one more distinct section. There’s a change of pace on the chorus. The tempo slows, while the lead vocalist continues to sing with the utmost angst and passion.
“The Bleeding Baroness / Hours of slumber / Just before she will take you and make you wish that you’ve never been born / The Bleeding Baroness / Crimes of passion / She needs you and feeds you and bleeds you with the rise of the moon.”
Candlemass conjure up an exceptional tone poem for the Blood Countess.

6. F is for Frotteurism
Low Season, “Frotteurism”
Album: Weather Maker – EP, 2017
Frotteurism, according to Psychology Today, “Is the act of touching or rubbing up against another person in a sexual manner without their consent.” Australian band Low Season go straight for the perverted nature of the act on “Frotteurism.”
“Rub your brain against my leg, masturbate to a house and fence / Home life dream, I want all to see the stains on our sheets and our credit history / These thoughts run wild (Past lives, you’re mine) / These thoughts are mine (Past lives, you’re mine).”
Those lyrics are actually clever, considering Low Season isn’t really focused on the act specifically. The band goes on, managing to mention more sexual terminology in the process.
“Masturbate to our success, a trophy wife inside my head / A sink full of dishes and two shit kids / And I can’t cum ‘til the kitchen’s refitted / These thoughts run wild (Past lives, you’re mine) / These thoughts run wild (Past lives, you’re mine).”

Blind Melon, “Skinned
Album: Soup, 1995
Blind Melon finds a way to make the brief “Skinned” incredibly disturbing. From the onset, they portray Ed Gein with the utmost justice. But that’s the problem – the Butcher of Plainfield was totally messed up. Take the belly button fetish featured in the forthcoming lyrics:
“I’ll make a shoehorn outta your skin / I’ll make a lampshade of durable skin / And, oh, don’t you know what I’m always feeling able / When I’m sitting home and I’m carving out your navel? / I’m just a sitting here carving out your navel.”

8. H is for Harris, as in Eric Harris, one of two Columbine High School Massacre perpetrators.
Alice Cooper, “Wicked Young Man”
Album: Brutal Planet, 2000
“Nothing’s Shocking” in the hands of shock rocker Alice Cooper, right? Most of the time, but in this case, Cooper was rattled by the unfortunate, tragic events at Columbine High School. According to Post-Gazette, two songs from his 2000 album Brutal Planet were “based on the killings at Columbine High School.” In an article for Chron, Michael Moore speaks about the song “Wicked Young Man” specifically:
“One of the songs on the album, ‘Wicked Young Man,’ creates a character for the dark world by combine elements from the move ‘American History X’ with gruesome recollections from the murders at Columbine.”
Cooper gives a chilling description of the dangers of hatred. He first clarifies that it’s not outside influences, but pure wickedness.
“I am a vicious young man, oh I am a wicked young man / It’s not the games that I play, the movies I see, the music I dig / I’m just a wicked young man.”
Cooper doesn’t stop there. He cites specific examples of fuel for the fire:
“I got every kind of chemical pumpin’ through my head / I read Mein Kampf daily just to keep my hatred fed / I never ever sleep I just lay in my bed / Dreamin’ of the day when everyone is dead.”

Richard Thompson, “Love in a Faithless Country”
Album: Faithless, 2004
“Always move in pairs and travel light / A loose friend is an enemy, keep it tight / Always leave a job the way you found it / Look for trouble coming and move around it.”
Sometimes, the darkest songs can be the most beautiful. That is the case with “Love in a Faithless Country,” one of the most radiant, yet blackest songs ever. This song originally appeared on the 1985 LP by veteran British singer/songwriter Richard Thompson, Across a Crowded Room. In the United States, however, the only available version appears on Thompson’s 2004 effort, Faithless.
“Love in a Faithless Country” “deals with a mass murderer and his wife roaming across Britain,” even though, the Moors Murderers – Ian Brady and Myra Hindley – aren’t explicitly mentioned in the song. Nonetheless, as beautiful as “Love in a Faithless Country” is, it’s also unsettling, as are the lyrics. However, That’s the way we make love.
“Always make your best moves late at night /Always keep your tools well out of sight / It never pays to work the same town twice /It never hurts to be a little nice.”

Accept, “Koolaid”
Album: Rise of Chaos, 2017
Veteran German band Accept tackle the horrid happenings at The People’s Temple in Jonestown, the infamous cult led by Jim Jones. On “Koolaid,” vocalist Mike Tornillo takes on the character of an ex-member to portray the horrors.
“Running through the jungle / Way back in ’78 / Here’s the story of the people’s temple / And my great escape / Communing with a madman / The promise of utopia / White nights, suicide drills / Shades of things to come.”
The infamous mass suicide comes to head on the pre-chorus, which is varied throughout, but fundamentally the same.
“He [Jim Jones] said / We’re gonna mix it up / Add the cyanide / Then we’ll drink it up / You’re gonna feel so fine.”
Tornillo and Accept discourage partaking of this communion. In the same token, they seem to be making an argument about church and religion in general. In the case of Jim Jones and Jonestown, they definitely have a point.
“Don’t drink the Koolaid / Don’t taste the holy water / Don’t drink the Koolaid / No matter what the preacher says.”

Devourment, “Abomination Unseen”
Album: Unleash the Carnivore, 2017
Some serial killers were quite smart. Additionally, some serial killers where quite big – imposing. Both statements accurate characterize Edmund Kemper, who was intelligent and huge. Not many victims could escape a 6’9” necrophiliac. Notably, Kemper brutally murdered his mother and physically and sexually abused her corpse. Gross!
The indecipherable Texas death metal band Devourment are perfect suitors to cover this disturbed bastard.
“Axe again the torso, gushing murderous, infectious, homicide / Thirst for the blood spray, spilling, coloring the walls red / Dead in seconds, mutilate extremities, chop off their head / To fornicate the lifeless object until I feel release.”

12. L is for Lactophilia.
Asher Roth, “Rub on Your Titties”
Album: The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 1 (Mixtape), 2008
“I Love College” rapper Asher Roth doesn’t leave much to the imagination with “Rub on Your Titties.” Even so, in at least one instance, Roth goes behind the hand action to a fetish – a paraphilia if you will.
“I’m in the strip club staring at some tatas / Oooh yeah, I want that, give me, give me mama / Oh yeah, that’s right, put it in my face girl / Where’s all the breast milk? Let me get a taste girl (Mmmmm) / It’s an interest, more like a fetish.”
The fetish/paraphilia is known as lactophilia or erotic lactation. According to The Free Dictionary, erotic lactation is “sexual eroticism that hinges on breastfeeding or sucking on a woman’s breasts.” Clearly, that’s exactly what Asher Roth has in mind on “Rub on Your Titties.”

Marilyn Manson, “Disposable Teens”
Album: Holy Wood, 2000
Musical influence was questioned in regards to the Columbine massacre. The chief artist blamed was Marilyn Manson. While ultimately it was myth, Manson responded with a song, “Disposable Teens,” that Loudwire included in its list of Disturbing Songs People Love. Author Graham Hartmann asserts that Manson was “likely commenting on the events aftermath, along with referencing George Orwell’s ‘Nineteen Eighty-Four.’” Safe to say, there’s nothing ‘warm and fuzzy’ about “Disposable Teens.” On the second verse, the disposable teen gives thanks.
“I want to thank you mom / I want to thank you dad / For bringing this fucking world / To a bitter end / I never really hated the one true God / But the God of the people I hated.”
On the chorus, he sings:
“You said you wanted evolution / The ape was a great big hit / You say you want a revolution man / And I say that you’re full of shit.”
Lyrically, Marilyn Manson is always captivating. Here, he seems to be repudiating the actions of perpetrators Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, whom he was blamed for influencing.

14. N is for Nebraska.
Bruce Springsteen, “Nebraska”
Album: Nebraska, 1982
One of the most notable albums in the Bruce Springsteen discography is Nebraska, released in 1982. As Ian Couch writes for The New Yorker in article “The Original Wrecking Ball: Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Nebraska’,” it was a unique, thanks to its share of dark material being told from a first-person perspective. The title track tackles 19-year old spree killer, Charles Starkweather, who murdered 11 people.
“I saw her standing on her front lawn just twirling her baton / Me and her went for a ride, sir, and ten innocent people died / From the town of Lincoln, Nebraska, with a sawed-off .410 on my lap / Through to the badlands of Wyoming I killed everything in my path.”
Starkweather had an accomplice, his girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate, who was just 14. Ultimately, for his crimes, which took place in Wisconsin and Nebraska, Starkweather went to the electric chair.
“The jury brought in a guilty verdict and the judge he sentenced me to death / Midnight in a prison storeroom with leather straps across my chest.”

Oh, Sleeper, “Dealers of Fame”
Album: Children of Fire, 2011
“Let ‘em rot!” At the hands of the Dnepropetrovsk Maniacs as they were coined, shit certainly got real in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. 19-year-olds Victor Sayenko and Igor Suprunyuk brutally murdered people solely for thrills back in 2007. Metal band Oh, Sleeper captures the maniacs’ lust for fame throughout “Dealers of Fame.” At one point, frontman Shane Blay sings:
“Innocence turned its head at 19 when the two screamed / Don’t try to save us / We’ll prove we’re man enough / Look how they chase us / All we need is fame, fame, fame.”
Blay continues:
“21 counts of murder and the public eye / She swings wide / To open her arms and welcome the bribe / Behold, these are the monsters that we’ve conjured / And they’ve both got to die.”

16. P is for Perry Smith.
Bastille, “Four Walls (The Ballad of Perry Smith)”
Album: Wild World, 2016
The somber “Four Walls (The Ballad of Perry Smith)” is among the most beautiful, thought-provoking moments of Wild World. Wild World is the intriguing sophomore album by British alternative collective, Bastille, fronted by Dan Smith. As beautiful as “Four Walls (The Ballad of Perry Smith)” is, the subject matter isn’t beautiful. Perry Smith was a mass murderer who was executed by hanging. Dan denounces the mass murder’s actions, but argues against execution and capital punishment as atonement.
“We could be born to anything and now what, now what? / What you have done is terrible, and now you, and now you / Now you carry it with you / You carry it with you / You carry it with you.”

Macabre, “Montreal Massacre”
Album: Sinister Slaughter / Behind the Walls of Sleep, 2000
80s doom-metal band Macabre has excelled at covering serial killers and mass murders throughout their career. This time, the subject at hand is Marc Lépine, a misogynist with serious disdain for women. His disdain led him to murder the innocent, all women, ultimately, committing suicide after killing 14. Macabre, being the literal band that they are, are blunt imparting the tale of Lépine.
“Mark went out with his rifle to the university of Montreal / Divided up a classroom and then only shot girls / Mark Lupine killed fourteen / In Montreal, he only shot girls / He must have hated women to do what he did / He divided up a classroom, and the females lives he did end /Mark Lupine killed fourteen / In Montreal, he only shot girls.”

18. R is for Ripper, as in Jack the Ripper.
Whitechapel, “The Somatic Defilement”
Album: The Somatic Defilement, 2007
“Captivating with sadistic intentions to exalt the carrion / Holding onto faith like it would help me anyway / Up on my feet. Vehemence takes over as I pave the way to anatomical feast / Severing the ties I once endured to understand why it is that I crave the dead…”
Jack the Ripper is known for the Whitechapel murders. Fittingly, Tennessee metal band Whitechapel fittingly tackle Jack the Ripper throughout the course of their debut album, The Somatic Defilement (2007). Like we envision The Ripper to be himself, Whitechapel deliver a heaping dose of hellishness throughout the course of the title track.
“I find a sense in malpracticing the common ways / Wallowing in claret. I long for such salvation / For when I’m through. I shall wear you pride upon my lips / Songs of the dead will eternally be chanted…”
Like many metal bands, they get specific with the blackness. Here, that blackness is the abuse committed by The Ripper, and it’s gross to the nth degree.
“An injection of sodium thiopental applied / Your eyes are getting heavy now. I smell your fear / Delusions and paranoia are setting in / Control in my hands. I now shall purge / With the saw I maim. By the saw I live / Inhaling fumes of the putrid festered funk / As I drain the throbbing cysts from the gangrenous vagina / The Mordant reek is overtaking every inhalation / The nausea is overwhelming. I stop to heave…”

Nicole Dollanganger, “Nebraska”
Album: Flowers of Flesh and Blood, 2012
“The prairies of Nebraska soaked in blood / The love made between them using his gun / And the bodies stacked in rows / The dead they will never know.”
The definitive “Nebraska,” written and performed by Bruce Springsteen, appeared previously on this playlist. However, Canadian singer/songwriter delivers her own, also referencing 19-year-old spree killer, Charles Starkweather.
“He came and shot her parents both in the head / Dragged them outside, put the bodies in the shed / Collected up her things, put them in his trunk / He sat her on his lap right next to his gun.”
As evidenced by the lyrics above and below, Dollanganger is poetic describing the events that took place in 1958. This includes his ‘ride or die.’ Ultimately, Starkweather went to the electric chair.
“Showed his Caril Ann how to use a knife… / Shot who they could, snapped the neck of a dog / Stole a dead man’s car and the engine stalled.”
“They executed him with her name on his lips / He loved her in life just as much in death.”

20. T is for Troilism.
Britney Spears, “3”
Album: The Singles Collection, 2009
Troilism is described by Psychology Dictionary as a “carnal activity where three people are engaged.” Naturally, a threesome comes to mind. There are parallels between the two, but troilism seems to focus on the troilist fulfilling their sexual desires. Regardless, the Britney Spears no. 1 hit “3” comes to mind when finding a song that somewhat fulfills the definition of the paraphilia. Given the selfishness of troilism, Britney Spears ensures at the beginning on the chorus that she’s the beneficiary.
“1, 2, 3 / Not only you and me / Got 180º, and I’m caught in between / Counting 1, 2, 3 / Peter, Paul and Mary / Getting down with 3P / Everybody loves counting.”

Trina, “Look Back at Me”
Ft. Killer Mike
Album: Still Da Baddest, 2008
“Look Back at Me” is one of the dirtiest songs EVER. Trina is assisted by Killer Mike, who makes a mess of his own, by way of mayonnaise and a pearl necklace. Focusing solely on paraphilias, besides urolagnia, “Look Back at Me” features narratophilia, olfactophilia (osmolagnia), and nasophilia. Urolagnia deals with sexual arousal via urine. An uncommon-common example is the golden shower, which interestingly, have impacted pop culture. American Pie comes to mind. Trina can’t resist mentioning it:
“Licky, licky, licky licky, licky for an hour / I’mma make it rain for you, here’s a golden shower.”
Narratophilia in simplest terms in dirty talk, such as, “I got an ass so big like the sun / Hope you got a mile for a dick I wanna run / Slap it in my face, shove it down my throat / Nigga, where you blunt? I can make this pussy smoke.” Olfactophilia/Osmolagnia can be described as “carnal interest in and stimulation by body odors, particularly from the genitalia region,” such as lyric, “Smell it like a flower, my pussy is a rose.” Finally, there’s a reference to nasophilia, dealing with the nose (“Come a little closer, I wanna fuck your nose”).

Rammstein, “Mein Teil”
Album: Reise, Reise, 2004
“Because you are what you eat / And you know what it is.” Armin Meiwes, a native of Rotenberg, Germany, killed and ate a man. Eating human flesh makes him a cannibal. Eating human flesh makes him a cannibal. The killing part, coupled with the sexual pleasure, now creates a new monster, vorarephilia. Just let that bit of info about Mr. Meiwes sink in. Even more screwed up is the fact that his victim, Bernd Brandes, agreed to be eaten and killed.
On “Mein Teil,” Rammstein sings about Meiwes. One particular section of “Mein Teil” highlights the eating of, he penis, specifically his victim, Brandes’ penis. Yes, it’s too much information, but apparently, both men wanted to partake in this most disgusting experience.

Veteran hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse tackle darkness on “The Tower,” a song clearly inspired by Charles Whitman.
“There’s a psychopath, way up in the tower somewhere / And when they think they outta range [gunshot] poofs they hair.”
An unlikely mass murderer with his clean-cut, All-American looks, nonetheless, Charles Whitman was indeed a mass murderer. He’s known for his hellish killing spree atop the tower at the University of Texas in 1966.
“…I barricaded the tower doors, safe this place ain’t / Up to the top, I can see the whole planet it would seem / The sun is beatin’ on my head as I’m living my horror dream / Up-chucked a couple times then I finally took aim / The man is chattin’ on his cell phone, I splattered his brain.”
Ultimately, the former military sniper took the lives of 16 innocent victims.
“I’m finally at war again, only I ain’t takin’ orders / 200 yards below, I’m taggin’ targets small as quarters / Marksman, sniper, military precision / Spotlight on the tower, tryin’ to nullify my vision…”

Exodus, “The Ballad of Leonard and Charles”

Phew! Thrash metal band Exodus had some twisted inspiration on “The Ballad of Leonard and Charles.”
“Lecherous inhuman monsters / Piteous crimes carried out / Patriarchs to the lunatic fringe / They venerate what has been done.”
Seems like a perfect way to describe two terrible individuals. Rapists. Torturers. Murderers. Charles Ng is still alive, but on death row for his crimes. As for Leonard Lake, supposedly the mastermind in the partnership, he committed suicide before ever being convicted. Coward. Exodus provide specifics on their murder ballad, accurately characterizing the demons.
“Dragging their victims into lunacy / And putting it all on film / Wretched dregs of society / Killers of children / Rapist of women / Sado-sexual violence.”
“Malevolent and rancid perversions / The outcome is always death / Bodies thrown down into a hole / Maggots consuming the flesh.”

“I will not give you my name, because you will try to stop or slow down my collecting of slaves for the afterlife.” Most of the songs on this particular list have appeared on previous lists. Not “Zodiac” by Macabre as sadly, there’s a gap in our serial killer coverage where the unidentified Zodiac Killer is concerned. But fittingly, we turn to our go-to doom metal band to enlighten us about another horrible member of society.
“This is the Zodiac speaking, I like killing people because it’s so much fun /… You’re going to die, there’s no question about that, who am I? The killer called Zodiac / I’ll just use my gun, or maybe my knife, and then when I die, you’ll be my slave in paradise.”
“Well here I am again, the Zodiac man, and no one can figure out who I am, I send them clues, but they always lose, and they’ll never find me, the meanies in the blue.”
