A Great Big World, Younger © EpicA Great Big World, comprised of singer/songwriters Ian Axel and Chad King, makes reminiscent magic on their new single, “Younger.”

Grammy-winning pop duo  A Great Big World (Ian Axel and Chad King) return with a new single. Now in their thirties, the singer/songwriters reminisce back to their youth. What better way to do that than with a single named “Younger?”

“Younger” features an easygoing groove on the first verse. Ian Axel sings the first verse.  Ultimately, he employs a cool, calm, poised, and smooth approach.  Even so, he’s still expressive and honest about his life, singing:

“I wish I was younger

The fat kid with the big, blue eyes full of wonder

No shame, no fame, no worries, the king of Wiffle ball…”

Chad King sings on the second verse.  He contrasts Axel, bringing more bite and power to his.  Like his partner-in-crime, he’s honest about experiences from his past.

“I wish I was younger

Barbies and fashion shows with my brother…”

The chorus is heavier, blending electronic elements with pop/rock.  On the third verse, the energy comes back down, before building into an outro section, shared by both vocalists. Notably, the outro contrasts everything that precedes it.

Final Thoughts

Once again, Chad King and Ian Axel make magic together.  “Younger” likely won’t move the needle much for A Great Big World, but their dedicated fans will ‘eat it up.’  All in all, enjoyable, thoughtful, and well-rounded.
