6ix9ine is the latest SoundCloud rapper on the rise into the mainstream. He has an energetic, hard-hitting banger on his hands with “Kooda.”
Every day there seems to be a new rapper with an up-and-coming hit single that’s got everybody talking. In a lot of recent instances, these rappers tend to ‘blow up’ on SoundCloud. The latest SoundCloud rapper that’s getting attention is 6ix9ine, also known as TEKASHI69. 6ix9ine isn’t without his fair share of controversy early on in his career. That controversy involves sexual misconduct with a minor. Nonetheless, the rapper has a couple of buzzworthy singles on hand: “Gummo,” named after the 1997 film, and arguably, the more intriguing “Kooda.”
There are lots of similarities in regards to “GUMMO” and its follow-up, “Kooda.” “Kooda” doesn’t even hit the two-and-a-half-minute mark, keeping up a trend of shorter raps with fewer distinct lyrics and substance. Also like “GUMMO,” 6ix9ine goes ‘hard as a mother-’ on “Kooda.” The hook is wordy, but incredibly energetic.
“N**as runnin’ out they mouth but they never pop out / I got the drop on your spot, everybody watch out / All my n***as on 50, so you know we hopped out / Mobbed out, opps out, we gon’ show what we about / All my n***as really gang bang, talk that damn slang / Rap about it, do the same thing, let your nuts hang / We gon’ pull up, n***a ¡ándele!, on sangre / We post up, we don’t do the race, you gon’d die today.”
Final Thoughts
Following the chorus, 6ix9ne serves up two verses, with the second verse being shorter. There’s nothing soft about the rhymes, which are aggressive and loud – definitely ‘in your face.’ The production work is malicious, set in a minor key. Key features include the slick drum programming and the distinct piano loop. Personal preference, “Kooda” > “GUMMO.”
