With “GOOBA,” once again, the ever unapologetic, newly released from prison 6ix9ine screams his way through a single with little substance.
“Niggas tweetin’ ‘bout me, got me trendin’, bitch, you big sad / Tell me how I ratted, came home to a big bag…” Ugh… Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, or simply 6ix9ine, was released early from prison due to coronavirus fears. Of course, since being released, it’s no surprise that he also released a brand-new song. That song, peeps, is “GOOBA,” which has a song title like any and everything else Daniel Hernandez has released up until this point. I’ll be the first to say I’m no fan, nor do I think Hernandez seems to be a ‘good guy,’ but, I did find myself enjoying “FEFE” back in 2018. As for “GOOBA,” it’s honestly more of the same from the screamer – I mean rapper.
The good news is that “GOOBA” runs only a modest two-and-quarter minutes. If the record had lasted any longer, I think my ear drums would’ve been shattered! Also, good news, 6ix9ine is backed by respectable production work by Harald Hjermann Sroboo and Jahnei Clarke. No, it won’t change your life and certainly doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it gives Hernandez a malicious, trap-oriented backdrop. Throwing one more positive out there, Hernandez does have plenty of energy.
So, beyond the aforementioned pros, “GOOBA” isn’t really, um, game changing. 6ix9ine, again, screams out a song, and while he’s tough (“I tell a nigga don’t dick ride, don’t blick ride”), he doesn’t bring anything substantive. I mean, on the first verse, are we supposed to impressed with his cockiness (“Niggas always wanna chase clout, bitch, I am clout”). Really Tekashi, really? Hmm. Then, of course, he has to go and mention COVID-19: “They sick, been hot way before Coronavirus…” Hmm, I find it ‘sketch,’ but to each his own.
Final Thoughts
So, how does “GOOBA” stack up? It is what it is. If you are a 6ix9ine fan, you’ll probably be onboard. As for me and my house, I’m very MEH at best. I mean, happy birthday Daniel if that the way you wish to celebrate it, but what growth or innovativeness does “GOOBA” show whatsoever?
