50 Cent, Crazy © G-Unit‘00s East Coast rap standout 50 Cent returns with a new single, “Crazy.” He enlists rising rapper/singer PnB Rock for the assist.

There was a time that 50 Cent was at the top of the hip-hop mountain.  Unfortunately, it’s been a ‘hot minute’ since Curtis Jackson was truly relevant. Nonetheless, he’s back with a new single, assisted by PnB Rock, “Crazy.”

“Crazy” features nice, old-school, soulful East Coast production. The best part of the backdrop are the dusty, soulful drums, which are perfect fuel for the artists’ fire. PnB Rock drops the brief sung intro. He follows up with the sung chorus, which is catchier than anticipated.

“It feels like I’m going crazy
Nothing can save me
I’m goin’ close to the edge, hey, hey
I can’t stop staring out my window
Choppa and my pistol
I’m goin’ out of my head, he-he-head.”

After PnB Rock sets the tone, 50 Cent gets to work, over the course of three verses. On the first verse, he references family issues and dysfunctions, not to mention suicidal thoughts and mental health issues.  On the second verse, the family issues continue, including a lack of relationship with his son, as well as former G-Unit associate, Lloyd Banks.  On the third and final verse, he mentions Eminem, Proof, and a various range of emotions.  While the bars are solid, 50 comes over a bit low in energy. Ut would’ve been nice to hear a bit more ‘killer instinct.’

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Crazy” ends up being a better-than-expected offering from 50 Cent.  While his delivery doesn’t quite match what he spits, there’s lots to like and respect about “Crazy.” Not the second coming, but there’s definitely something here.
