Despite such a messy title, Australian pop collective 5 Seconds of Summer don’t dare serve up a “COMPLETE MESS.”
“C
aught up in heaven, but your heaven ain’t the same / And I’ve never been a saint, have I?” Well, at least 🎙 Luke Hemmings owns his hellishness on the 2022, 🎙 5 Seconds of Summer single, 🎵 “COMPLETE MESS.” He continues the first verse similarly, closing with another question: “But I’m never one to change, am I?” As you’d expect, Hemmings handles the heavy lifting vocally. Still, all members of the Australian pop collective contribute on the chorus (“Your make me a complete mess”), while 🎙 Calum Hood and 🎙 Michael Clifford perform the second verse.“COMPLETE MESS” may bear a messy title (ha!), but the song is anything but. It was penned by quartet solely with Clifford serving as producer. Why is the band writing and producing themselves, you ask? Well, 5SOS is now independent, which changes things. Even if they’re no longer major, the quality remains strong 💪. Notably, the beginning of “COMPLETE MESS” bears similarities to past songs – that’s a pro. All in all, this love-driven cut is groovy and well executed. The chorus is #winning for sure!
Final Thoughts 💭
Will the “COMPLETE MESS” that 5 Seconds of Summer serves up change your life? No – it’s not a game changing song. That said, it is well-executed and well-rounded, keeping the Aussie band on the up-and-up. The boys sing well, the lyrics are respectable, and the chorus – golden. It’ll be interesting to see what 🎙 Ashton Irwin, Calum, Luke, and Michael serve up in the future.
